{"id":897,"date":"2012-04-13T22:10:06","date_gmt":"2012-04-13T22:10:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/joel-mcmartin\/?p=897"},"modified":"2012-04-13T22:10:06","modified_gmt":"2012-04-13T22:10:06","slug":"life-without-running-water","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/joel-mcmartin\/2012\/04\/13\/life-without-running-water\/","title":{"rendered":"Life Without Running Water"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As we arrived back home, I was reminded what an adjustment it is to live without running water. \u00a0Every time we leave, we quickly get used to having running water, and then the shock hits when we return. \u00a0I have come to realize that we need to be prepared for a couple of days to readjust ourselves to life here. \u00a0Once we are adjusted life gets a lot easier. \u00a0However those days of adjustment are rough. \u00a0The type of days when I fight not to cry or get mad when a glass of water spills to the ground. \u00a0Even though those days are rough, I have been marveling at how quickly we do adapt and become accustom to our situation no matter how different it is. \u00a0I found myself thanking God today for the ability to adapt and change to the circumstances we face.<\/p>\n<p>So this is what I have discovered about our water situation&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It seems like we live in one of the worst neighborhoods in terms of water. \u00a0Are we going to move? \u00a0No, this\u00a0location is the best for our ministry and we believe we are right where God wants us to be.<\/li>\n<li>The problem might get solved at some point, but it has been this way for at least 3 years so that is not hopeful<\/li>\n<li>On a good day we get a little water during the day from one really low facet. \u00a0On a bad day (which seem to be getting more common) the water in our one working facet doesn&#8217;t turn on until after 10 and is off by the time we wake up.<\/li>\n<li>We are discussing our options for what type of water system to set up, \u00a0but with any system we set up the reality is we will have to consciously conserve water everyday. \u00a0Clean water is rinse water &#8212; rinse water becomes wash water &#8212; wash water becomes toilet water.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What is it like living without water? \u00a0<\/strong>Water is involved in so many aspects of life and I rarely noticed them until I didn&#8217;t have any water. \u00a0To describe it all would take too long. \u00a0So lets start simple &#8211; hand washing. \u00a0Ethan was kind enough to model for us.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_898\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-898\" style=\"width: 450px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/joel-mcmartin\/files\/2012\/04\/P1010547.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-898\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/joel-mcmartin\/files\/2012\/04\/P1010547.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/joel-mcmartin\/files\/2012\/04\/P1010547.jpg 450w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/joel-mcmartin\/files\/2012\/04\/P1010547-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-898\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This is our one facet that gets water. It is in our bathroom and is about a foot or two off the ground.
