That&#8217;s the age when they start learning real things&#8230; like reading and counting and chores. That&#8217;s the age when you can have an actual, meaningful conversation with them\u00a0that revolves around more than just food and toys.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/john-anyan\/files\/2016\/02\/FS_Kusuma_150606-1251.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1369\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/john-anyan\/files\/2016\/02\/FS_Kusuma_150606-1251-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"FS_Kusuma_150606-1251\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/john-anyan\/files\/2016\/02\/FS_Kusuma_150606-1251-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/john-anyan\/files\/2016\/02\/FS_Kusuma_150606-1251-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/john-anyan\/files\/2016\/02\/FS_Kusuma_150606-1251.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Judah turned 4 last month, and in the busyness of road-trippin&#8217;, Christmas, unpacking, packing, traveling around the world and moving again, I never got around to doing his birthday interview with him (<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/john-anyan\/2015\/01\/03\/3-years-ago\/\">last year&#8217;s <\/a>still brings tears of laughter to my eyes). So here it is! Thoughts and silliness from our creative, goofy, caring, sensitive, timid, friend-and-brother-loving, cuddly, excitable, introverted yet social, and sweet\u00a04-year old Judah Johannes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>20 Questions for Judah, with occasional comments by Elias<\/strong><em> (Judah answered in German and I&#8217;ve translated the answers to make it simpler, although his German-with-an-American-accent-and-mixed-in-English-grammar is quite priceless)<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>How old are you?<\/strong>\u00a0 &#8220;Five? Six? Seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve?&#8221;\u00a0<em>(starts counting frantically&#8230; I think I&#8217;ve drilled him with counting too much lately. Elias holds up various finger combinations to join the guessing game)<\/em>\u00a0&#8220;Oh! Four!&#8221;\u00a0<em>(got it, buddy)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>How old is Mommy?<\/strong>\u00a0&#8220;One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight&#8230;. sixteen&#8221;<em> (see what I&#8217;m saying about the counting drills? Elias just keeps on waving as many fingers as he can as quickly as he can. Thanks, kiddo. I&#8217;m not<\/em> that<em> old.)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>How old is Daddy?<\/strong><em>\u00a0(Judah just holds up 10 fingers. Done with the whole counting thing, I guess.)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>What is something Mommy says to you?<\/strong>\u00a0&#8220;Good things. Like &#8216;Hello, how are you?'&#8221;\u00a0<em>(Elias puts on his most feminine, husky voice and imitates me saying &#8220;hello&#8221; while John and I are laughing hysterically)\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>What makes you happy?<\/strong>\u00a0<em>(Elias yells out &#8220;God!&#8221; Points for the lil&#8217; bro.)<\/em>\u00a0&#8220;Yes, God&#8230; and when you sing to me, Mama.&#8221;\u00a0<em>(awwww<\/em>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>What makes you sad? <\/strong><em>(Elias yells out &#8220;God!&#8221; again. Forget about those points.) &#8220;<\/em>When you have to leave&#8230; and when you can&#8217;t come into our house&#8230;that&#8217;s all.&#8221;\u00a0<em>(us leaving the boys for 2 weeks has definitely left some separation anxiety)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>What makes you laugh?<\/strong>\u00a0&#8220;When someone does this, and this, and the tongue out, and this face&#8230;&#8221;<em> (he&#8217;s demonstrating all the funny things a face can make while talking and rambling on about noodles on the head and being cross-eyed)<\/em>\u00a0&#8220;Das macht mich funny.&#8221;\u00a0<em>(one example of his confused, bilingual brain)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>What is your favorite thing to do? &#8220;<\/strong>Watch movies and eat treats. And play.&#8221;\u00a0<em>(Elias supports his brother enthusiastically, &#8220;Movies! Treats! Legos!&#8221;)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>What\u2019s your favorite thing to do outside?<\/strong>\u00a0&#8220;Play.&#8221;\u00a0<em>(Elias, a little less enthusiastically,&#8221;Me too.&#8221;)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Who\u2019s your best friend? &#8220;<\/strong>Layla, Daisy, Halle, Kaine, Ruby&#8230;&#8221;\u00a0<em>Elias:<\/em> &#8220;Trent?&#8221;<em> Judah,\u00a0<\/em>&#8220;No, that&#8217;s <em>your<\/em> best friend&#8230; mine are Kaine, Logan, and Rex&#8221;<em> (he truly misses his Missouri friends and often asks for them).<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>What are you really good at? &#8220;<\/strong>Play with my webs <em>(as in Spiderman webs that shoot out of his wrists, of course)<\/em> and fighting.&#8221;<em> (Elias yells out, &#8220;Flying!&#8221; Maybe those boys need a little more reality and a little less superhero action). \u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>What\u2019s your favorite Bible story?<\/strong>\u00a0&#8220;Peter!&#8221;\u00a0<em>(when he cuts off the ear of the soldier. Judah has a thing for swords.)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>What is God like?<\/strong>\u00a0&#8220;He can make eeeeeeeeeeeeverything! And make flowers! (<em>true, true<\/em>)&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Which superhero do you want to be? &#8220;<\/strong>All of them!&#8221;<em> (Elias: &#8220;All, too!&#8221; Those boys are in a serious superhero phase right now)\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>What\u2019s your favorite food?<\/strong>\u00a0&#8220;Dessert.&#8221;<em> (Elias, very matter-of-factly, &#8220;Yep.&#8221;)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>What\u2019s your favorite book<\/strong>? &#8220;Superhero books&#8221; <em>(there they are again)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>What\u2019s your favorite song?<\/strong>\u00a0&#8220;Knights, dragons, and superheroes.&#8221;<em> (&#8230;.and again)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>What\u2019s your favorite color?<\/strong>\u00a0&#8220;White, pink, blue, and green.&#8221;<em> (his favorite colors haven&#8217;t changed from last year except that green was added. Funny.)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>What\u2019s your favorite animal? &#8220;<\/strong>Eagle, Dodo<em> (still his word for elephant), Cheetah.&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>What\u2019s your favorite toy?<\/strong>\u00a0&#8220;My biiiiig Spiderman! See it over there?!? See it??&#8221;\u00a0<em>(gets all excited about the big Spiderman laying on the floor that can shoot ropes out of his arms)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>We couldn&#8217;t be more thankful to have Judah in our lives.
