The day we moved to Africa.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1570\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/john-anyan\/files\/2017\/01\/IMG_1199-600x450.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/john-anyan\/files\/2017\/01\/IMG_1199-600x450.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/john-anyan\/files\/2017\/01\/IMG_1199-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/john-anyan\/files\/2017\/01\/IMG_1199-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/john-anyan\/files\/2017\/01\/IMG_1199.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>On that day,<\/em> we woke up our kids early, drove to the airport in below freezing temperatures, checked in our eight suitcases, and said goodbye.<\/p>\n<p><em>On that day,<\/em> we boarded airplanes, entertained our boys, ran through airports, watched the clouds from above, thanked God for a wonderfully smooth trip\u00a0and content children, and reassured the boys that we are, indeed, flying to Africa.<\/p>\n<p><em>On that day<\/em>, we arrived in Tanzania (as did all our luggage), were picked up by a co-worker, drove through the hot and humid night to our new home, and arrived there with two sleeping boys in our arms and our good friends and now-neighbors to welcome us.<\/p>\n<p><em>On that day,<\/em> we slept with whirring fans above us and mosquito nets all around us.<\/p>\n<p>That day was almost two weeks ago and it still feels surreal that we actually live in Africa now.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1571\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/john-anyan\/files\/2017\/01\/IMG_1210-600x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/john-anyan\/files\/2017\/01\/IMG_1210-600x600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/john-anyan\/files\/2017\/01\/IMG_1210-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/john-anyan\/files\/2017\/01\/IMG_1210-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/john-anyan\/files\/2017\/01\/IMG_1210-768x768.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Here are some glimpses into our new life!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Our apartment.<\/strong> We live in a nice 2 bedroom apartment (hey, that&#8217;s 2 bedrooms more than we had in Germany!) right next to our dear friends, the Sharpes, who arrived in Tanzania one day before us. We are really close to a supermarket and\u00a0to our organization&#8217;s office. All other furniture is borrowed.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Our team.<\/strong> They have taken such good care of us! It&#8217;s an English-speaking preschool and we are thankful that the Sharpe kids are attending the same one&#8230; it definitely helps having little friends walking this path alongside them! John and I have been going through our field orientation and will start formal language classes next Monday.
