{"id":578,"date":"2018-12-23T15:56:05","date_gmt":"2018-12-23T20:56:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/john-kerstetter\/?p=578"},"modified":"2019-06-25T15:58:47","modified_gmt":"2019-06-25T20:58:47","slug":"2018-highlights%ef%bb%bf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/john-kerstetter\/2018\/12\/23\/2018-highlights%ef%bb%bf\/","title":{"rendered":"2018 HIGHLIGHTS\ufeff"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2><strong>January<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>15<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0the\u00a0new semester began at the Missionary Training Center\u00a0(MTC).\u00a0<\/li><li>Miles &amp; Coleen Templeton, coworkers from\u00a0the school in\u00a0Brazil\u00a0where we worked,\u00a0came to\u00a0visit\u00a0for a few days.\u00a0<\/li><li>Melanie enjoyed a week in Waukesha, WI, helping out Sarah who was having a really difficult pregnancy.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>February<strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Melanie helped with several evenings of MK (Missionary Kid) Orientation for MTC students and their children.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>March<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>John attended\u00a0a three day conference, the\u00a0MK Care Summit,\u00a0which is a gathering of many missions on MK Care.\u00a0<\/li><li>15<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0our 3<sup>rd<\/sup>\u00a0grandchild,\u00a0Asher Reed Parker,\u00a0was born to Zach &amp; Bethany, weighing 9\u00a0lbs\u00a012 oz.\u00a0<\/li><li>Sarah was feeling better with her pregnancy, so she and Josh came for a visit during their spring break.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>April<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li> 11<sup>th<\/sup>-13<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0our department\u00a0hosted\u00a0our\u00a0annual\u00a0three day\u00a0MK Summit for about 20 coworkers\u00a0with Ethnos360\u00a0that work with MK Care and Education, with John facilitating and Melanie preparing snacks and meals.\u00a0 <\/li><li>21<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0\u2013\u00a054\u00a0missionary candidates\u00a0(who are now preparing to move to their country of service)\u00a0graduated\u00a0from the MTC,\u00a0one of\u00a0whom\u00a0John mentored during his\u00a0two years in training\u00a0and is now headed to Africa.\u00a0<\/li><li>Melanie made a quick trip to Waukesha to attend a baby shower for Sarah.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>May<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>18<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 the semester ended at the MTC.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>June<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>4<sup>th<\/sup>-18<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0\u2013 we\u00a0thoroughly enjoyed an amazing\u00a0cruise to Alaska that John\u2019s dad gifted to us.\u00a0Losing\u00a0John\u2019s CPAP\u00a0(in a taxi)\u00a0when we got off the cruise ship and John getting food poisoning\u00a0and\u00a0being sick on the\u00a0flight\u00a0home\u00a0only slightly dampened the\u00a0end of our\u00a0wonderful once-in-a-lifetime experience but did not take away\u00a0from all the incredible sights seen,\u00a0the\u00a0great\u00a0memories made,\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0experiences we delighted in.\u00a0<\/li><li>18<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0\u2013 we\u00a0had another check-up with our Lyme doctor. John is Lyme free now and, although she has a bit of\u00a0Lyme\u00a0and a few other issues\u00a0still, Melanie is continuing to improve.\u00a0 <\/li><li>We\u00a0relished\u00a0a visit\u00a0in Missouri with\u00a0John\u2019s brother,\u00a0David,\u00a0while he\u00a0felt strong enough\u00a0to travel\u00a0in\u00a0between chemo treatments\u00a0for stage\u00a04\u00a0colon cancer.\u00a0<\/li><li>Kevin &amp; DuAnne TerLouw, other coworkers and dear friends from Brazil, visited.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>July<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0our 4<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0grandchild,\u00a0Adelynn Jo Kerstetter,\u00a0was born to Josh &amp;\u00a0Sarah, weighing 6\u00a0lbs\u00a03 oz.\u00a0<\/li><li>We traveled to Wisconsin, Virginia, Maryland, Ontario, and Michigan, visiting family, friends and supporters.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>August<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>6<sup>th<\/sup>-9<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0\u2013 we\u00a0helped\u00a0Zach,\u00a0Bethany and kids\u00a0move back to Wisconsin after they had lived\u00a0with us\u00a0for one year.\u00a0 <\/li><li>13<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 the new semester began at MTC with 44 new missionary candidates beginning their two years of training.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>September<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Labor Day weekend \u2013 we were gifted with the use of a nice condo to share with our family, and all of our kids and grandkids except for BJ &amp; Carissa were able to join us.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>October<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>BJ &amp; Carissa told us their adoption was on hold because Carissa is pregnant! Grandbaby #5 is due in June. <\/li><li>David &amp; Diana Bailey, coworkers from the Indian village in Brazil where we worked, came to visit. <br><\/li><li>We were able to make a quick weekend trip to Waukesha to surprise Josh for his golden birthday.\u00a0 <\/li><li>Pat &amp; Luann Brown, friends and coworkers from the MTC, stayed with us for a few days while they moved out of their campus apartment.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>November<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>1<sup>st<\/sup>-6<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0\u2013 John made a trip to\u00a0San Francisco\u00a0with his dad and sister to celebrate his aunt\u2019s 90<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0birthday. On the way home they stopped in Las Vegas to visit his brother who\u00a0continues to battle cancer.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><li>We celebrated Thanksgiving with Zach, Bethany and kids, along with Zach\u2019s family and John\u2019s dad.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>December<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>We received good news that John\u2019s brother\u2019s cancerous nodules in his lungs have greatly reduced in size. The doctor says he is \u201cbeating the odds\u201d (God is at work!) and David is getting a break from chemo for the holidays!<\/li><li>Jonathan &amp; Sarah Thyng stayed with us while getting their house livable to move into.\u00a0 8<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0\u2013 we hosted our last get together, a Christmas party, with the small group we mentored\u00a0for\u00a0two\u00a0years.\u00a0<\/li><li>14<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0\u2013 the fall semester finishes\u00a0at MTC.\u00a0<\/li><li>22<sup>nd<\/sup> \u2013 all of our kids and grandkids will arrive to celebrate Christmas together!<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We trust that&nbsp;God\u2019s grace was evident to you in&nbsp;2018.
