If you were to talk to us on the phone right now you might ask, “What’s that noise in the background? Are there 100 emergency vehicles going by with their sirens going?” You might say, “Can you turn it off, I can’t hear you?”
That noise is cicadas; thousands of cicadas. And no, you can’t turn them all off. You just need to get used to it and talk loud if you want to be heard.
The cicadas are a delight to the children here. They spend hours hunting them from tree to tree. They use small plastic bags on the end of a pole to “net” them.
Then they play with them and eventually roast them for a snack.
This past week we finished the first rough draft of Romans 7 and went through Romans 3-5 with a language helper to prepare these chapters for the next phase of the translation process. I also had two opportunities to teach Bible in homes.
Heidi and her language helper worked on some chapters from the Gospels, getting them ready to be used for teaching.
At the end of this week, Heidi and I, along with Vicky and two of our language helpers, Devis and Perlita, plan to travel to Manila to participate in a three-week literacy seminar. We are hoping that Vicky will be able to help adults improve their reading skills and that we will produce materials that will be helpful to the school teachers in our area.
Please pray that we will have help from God as we work on translating his Word.
Please pray for safety for our team as we travel to Manila.
God bless,
Jonathan & Heidi
