I won’t lie, preparing to move to Southeast Africa is NOT a simple task. Lisa and I have had many discussions about “what to take” and “what NOT to take”. I am sure there will be many more of those. Deciding how to use the very limited luggage space is very important but another important aspect is making sure there are no health issues that might surprise in a location with limited medical assistance.
Lisa is no stranger to the doctors office but I, on the other hand, have made only occasional visits in the past ten years mostly to accompany someone else. Today I sat in the waiting room wondering (even though I feel pretty healthy for an almost 50 year old) if the doctor might discover a serious health issue that would either hinder me from moving to Africa or worse yet take my life. Then I began hoping that if there was something that needed to be taken care of that it would be found in plenty of time to treat it before we leave.
This got me thinking about my spiritual health. Wouldn’t it be great if we could make an appointment with a doctor and after a short visit and a few tests he could tell us all the spiritual issues in our lives that need to be treated? Wouldn’t it be even better if he could prescribe a few pills to to fix the problems? Unfortunately it is not quite that easy. We do believe that maintaining our spiritual health through our day to day relationship with the Great Physician is of utmost importance. Please pray that the many tasks that need to be accomplished before we leave for Africa will NOT distract us from enjoying fellowship with HIM. (John 15:5)
PS My check up went well but I will be returning for lab work in another week. Thanks for praying!
