Dia das Criancas

June 4, 2013 by Jonathan and Lisa Parker

This past weekend was a very special one for the children here in Mozambique. June 1st is “Children’s Day” which is pretty much like Christmas for kids in the USA. Kids expect some sort of gift or at least special food on this day.

Jenifa was especially proud of her hair

Lisa and I prepared to spend some time with our three young friends Jenifa, Toto and Ivane. They had already put in their “orders” for gifts a couple weeks before hand and wanted to make sure Lisa was going to make a cake.We also invited our “adopted” daughter, Jorgina with her kids to come over in the afternoon for gifts and cake. Of course the celebration did not end on Saturday.

Jorgina and family

On Sunday during our church service there was a special program that included the kids singing for the adults as well as gifts and cake to share with everyone. In the afternoon the celebration continued at our Bible club. Angelino & Flora had a special afternoon planned for the 100+ kids with face painting, games, prizes, gifts and…..you guessed it cake for everyone. We feel blessed to be a part of these kids lives in small ways. We pray they see the Lord Jesus in our lives as we interact with them and show them His love.

Kids provided special music for the service

No special day is complete without CAKE!
