After living here for four years, we are eligible for permanent residency &#8211; which eliminates the need for future renewals, saving us time and money from now on.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, we have encountered a big problem. In the United States it is understood that a woman may take her husband&#8217;s last name when marrying, yet this is not the custom in Mexico. An official in Chihuahua therefore decided that a US marriage license does not establish that I, Amy Husband, am the same person as I, Amy Greenslade. Every US official to whom we have spoken has told us there is no other official US document to prove my name change.<\/p>\n<p>Please pray for wisdom for us, and for the people working with us to resolve this issue. This is a new situation which is specific to the state of Chihuahua, and we are the first ones in New Tribes Mexico trying to navigate it. We would love to see this resolved quickly, not only for financial reasons, but also because this could potentially prevent me from re-entering Mexico at all until it is resolved.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE:<\/strong> the Social Security office in El Paso gave us an informal statement on official letterhead, attesting to my name change in their records.
