I wanted to drop a note to say thank you. What for you may be asking? Well because yesterday I ran, for the first time, our new boat engine. You see for my family we travel to a location in PNG that is in the middle of the ocean. So when we travel to and from the island we cover over 100 miles on the ocean. This often takes 5-6 hours, sometimes this has taken over 9 hours but those are stories for another time.
If you haven’t had a chance to experience boating in the middle of the ocean then let me say that it is awesome at times and not so awesome at other times. What I mean by that is sometimes we are boating in weather that is the same as a calm lake. On those days we are able to get some good tans and see things like dolphins, flying fish, whales, sea turtles and sometimes we even catch fish like Spanish mackerel or tuna. On those days life on the boat is fun.
However sometimes we can exprience seas that causes what I refer to as the “white knuckle effect.” What is that? It’s those times when your driving your car and you don’t realize it but the conditions have been so bad that your grip on the steering wheel has become on par to a handshake with superman. And that will turn your knuckles white because the blood flow has stopped. Okay back to the story.
It’s on those days that the seas are not your friends that you are thankful for a reliable boat and a reliable engine. Up until now we have been making this trip on a single engine that is nearly 10 years old. That may not sound old but when you live in this climate you realize that lifespans of objects are cut drastically short. For example most computers will corrode away in only a couple of years if your lucky. Some will only last a year. So when we are in crashing seas that require the same attention as driving on black ice, well we don’t really have the luxury of help if the engine breaks. So now we have a new engine but on top of that we have a small back up engine in case the main engine fails.
These engines were bought and shipped to us by supporters and a church from the states. Faye and myself are so thankful for the choice that many made to provide us with these engines. It is truly an example of a body of believers coming together to meet the needs of the body of Christ. We are thankful knowing that we will be making this journey with a bit more safety. Thanks so much for this provision to the ministry and my family.
