Visit to OUR home!
This has been a busy and exciting couple of months…. Our family recently returned from a night in the jungle forest of Papua. Thousands of miles from any town, in the middle of deep/lush forrest- you can find a people group that is without scripture in their own language. For several months, Josh and our co-worker Steve surveyed up and down many steep mountains trying to find a village that would be most strategic to live and serve. Our home will be located in Maolagi. Maolagi is a village located deep in the Papuan mountain jungle. We will live at 4,800 ft. elevation, which means we’ll have chilly evenings! After several visits to this village, we have been given all the permissions from the tribal village elders to move in! They acknowledge we are there to learn their language and one day translate the scriptures! There are about 300 people in the area of Maolagi. Maolagi is just one village in the tribe. The people group is roughly 7,000. Lord willing, one day the Maolagi and all the other villages who share the same language will be able to read scripture in their heart language for the first time!
Plans to build!
It’s the day we’ve been longing for! In just a few days Josh will head off for our first house building trip! There are many, many things that need to be done to prepare for building. Josh is extremely busy overseeing all the details. He is arranging to have a pilot travel interior to determine the site and measure a potential future airstrip. (The location of the airstrip needs to be determined first before Josh can decide the home sites.) He is organizing the woodcutters who will spend a couple months in the village milling all the wood needed for four houses. He is in contact with both bush plane pilots and helicopter pilots who will be flying in fuel, supplies and all of Josh’s tools. He is also scheduling flights for friends who are coming to work with him on the homes. He is gathering food for the time interior… this list could go on and on!
-For wisdom and peace for Josh as he is coordinating details of building
-for safety for Josh and his helpers as building begins in the village
-For Bethany as she cares for their children while being separated from Josh for several months off and on
-For safe flights and good weather
-For protected family and marriage and team during this challenging time
-We are looking for a couple skilled men who are willing to fly here and help Josh with a multiple week build trip
-We would like to financially help to fly in 2 volunteer construction workers ($1,500 per person)
-Amazon gift cards would be helpful as we purchase many things that can be brought from the states when we have volunteers come.
-We always enjoy hearing from you and so appreciate your gift packages
