I met with my urologist today, and he walked through the door with a smile on his face. He said, “Well, it looks like I’ve got nothing to say to you right now.”
Today marked 7 months since my testicular cancer diagnosis. To commemorate the occasion, Tamara and I went to see the doctor that made the diagnosis. He has been another one of those bright spots in the blur of memories that compose the past 12 months. It seems like God has been showing off how gracious He is, by providing comic relief through the people that have been introduced into my life.
This man is one of “those guys.” From the first appointment on, each visit was seasoned with a tasteful blend of humor that alleviated the weight of the real, actually concerning, nature of the issue. I am thankful that Dr. Usitalo “just happened” to be the doctor that had the next available appointment. “What a coincidence.”
The visit was actually quite short, and Dr. U concluded with, “Well, this has been fun, but why don’t you just go away for a year.” Which seems to me to be a GREAT way to close a chapter like that one.
Praise God with us that that bit of life was no more exciting than it seems to have been.
