Which word for “power”?

September 9, 2016 by Mark and Joyce Cain

It is amazing how involved translation is! Take for instance
yesterday when Mark, Luis and Arcesio came across this verse to revise in
the book of Luke:

Luke 10:19 “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and
scorpions,..”

They had to determine which word to use for “power”: soul power/thoughts,
power of authority to command, power to do things or just power/strength.
They chose soul power.

The two Guahibo co-translators leave in two weeks and will be back
end of October for the fourth and last stint this year. Please pray for God
to provide the needs of these Guahibo missionaries that are evangelizing,
discipling, translating and working on Bible lessons!! Pray for the
education of their children which isn’t easy like in the States. Pray for
our Guahibo missionary team in the country next to us that keep plugging
away amidst the terrible economic crisis. (Virgil, Elsa, Alex and
RosaElvina.)

Thank you for your prayers for us here in Colombia as we seek to make God’s
Word communicate in the best way to the Guahibo nation!!
