Mini Yacht: Pei’s Newest Member!

October 10, 2012 by Justin Rees

Contract Written
HEY! This month has been rockin for us. We are solidifying all those pesky little details of what it takes to get into the Jungle … and stay there. As you know from our blog and facebook posts, we’ve had a ground issue or ‘graun hevi’. The Pei People are on another tribal groups land. They have been there for years so legally it is theirs, but the Law of the Jungle oft times super-cedes that of the state. So there have been some issues there in the tribe. But we’ve met with the Pei people and they are going to arrange a day where we go into the village with all the Papa Grauns and sign a contract with all of the ‘Bikman’ or the leaders to make sure we don’t have tons of problems in the early days of   housebuilding and language learning. It was great to see some of our friends and know they are working to get us in there! We are schedule to sign the agreement on Oct 16th, so please pray for the process to go smoothly.

Building Material
We have also been busy getting all of the supplies together to build simple yet functional homes that will last and server as our ministry center for the duration of our time in the Jungle. We are about to purchase most of the materials for our homes (so if you want to help buy-a-wall click here) and we are awaiting their arrival. We have batteries and solar panels, electrical boxes and plumbing, and tons of plywood and tin roofing to prepare for shipping into the jungle. It is a lot of work and a sort of dance as we are allocating at the same time as two other Church Planting Teams: the Yifki Team and the Amdu Team. Remember when your first house was being built or remodeled? All the small things that are easily forgotten during this time are compounded when considering transportation into a remote Tribal Location… But man is it fun!

I’m On A Boat!
Lastly, we had a new addition to our Pei Team. It is a sweet 16 ft flatbottom John boat named … Dang we actually haven’t named her. But it might be something that happens soon. Anyway, this boat has become our central mode of transportation to and from a local/remote airstrip that is 2 hours away from our Tribe of Pei. Yep, it’s a 2 hour commute on an isolated river to get our milk and eggs that will have just landed on and isolated airstrip by our missions 206 bush plane! There is a lot that goes into this process and by God’s Grace he continues to supply us with what we need and when we need it… What a great Dad we can Trust!
