Coloring our note-taking sheets<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

On\nSunday Rachel and I met with the believers to study.  We adults colored\nour note-taking sheets while we waited for others to show up.  After\nsinging and prayer, the group was uncharacteristically candid.  They\ntalked about embarrassment with regards to praying in public and people making\nfun of them for believing a \u201cnew\u201d thing.  They asked why such a big crowd\ncame to listen to the teaching at first and such a small crowd is actually\nbelieving.  They talked about social pressure to conform to the old ways,\nand comments their unbelieving families have made about God.  Queen said\nthat her mother claims she is \u201ctoo hot-headed\u201d for God to accept her. \nAnger here is seen as a major vice\u2014one that keeps people from being\nclean.  Queen told her mom that the Bible says that it is the sick who\nneed the doctor and that those in need should draw near.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\nwould be impractical to share all the details of the ladies\u2019 comments, but the\nmorning was a huge encouragement to me.  Reading between the lines of\ntheir statements, here is what I gathered: they are praying at home; they are\nreading the Bible at home; they are teaching their children at home; they are\nwitnessing to their family members at home.  Then they are sharing the\nreality of those experiences together as a community of believers and praying\nfor each other and encouraging each other.  That is the heart of what our\nteam is aiming for\u2014for personal devotion that does not rely on our involvement\nin any way.  A small step, but a big deal.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead of naming her son after the calendar list of local saints, Queen named her son Abraham after our father in the faith<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The\nfuture focus for our team is two-fold: to continue to reach out to and teach\nthose who are lost and to continue to disciple and strengthen the body of Christ\nin this community.  Easy to state as a goal, but complicated and, at\ntimes, difficult to maneuver in the real world.  We are grateful for the\nreturn of our coworkers, the Hypkis, in order to fully focus on the challenges\nahead.  We are grateful for your prayers, support, and encouragement as we\npress on, trusting Him for the timing, the results, and for our further\nsanctification in the process.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
