{"id":175,"date":"2011-02-12T15:38:53","date_gmt":"2011-02-12T19:38:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/katie-moore\/?p=175"},"modified":"2011-02-12T16:23:05","modified_gmt":"2011-02-12T20:23:05","slug":"first-six-months","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/katie-moore\/2011\/02\/12\/first-six-months\/","title":{"rendered":"First Six Months"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mceTemp\">\n<figure id=\"attachment_180\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-180\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-180\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/katie-moore\/files\/2011\/02\/starting1.jpg\" alt=\"On the Road Again...\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/katie-moore\/files\/2011\/02\/starting1.jpg 640w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/katie-moore\/files\/2011\/02\/starting1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-180\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">On the Road Again...<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In June of last year our team moved into the tribe.\u00a0 The Alkire family was ready to join Rachel and I in our somewhat finished house.\u00a0 We packed all the belongings that would fit and half-a-year&#8217;s-worth of groceries into a truck and made our way up the mountain to the tribe.\u00a0 The weeks flew by as we finished the pantry, put in our solar system, and stuccoed our inside walls.\u00a0 We began to learn language with the help of our tribal neighbors and either went visiting or received visitors every day.\u00a0 We started building a foundation for the day in which we will be able to share the gospel.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp mceIEcenter\" style=\"text-align: left\">\n<figure id=\"attachment_182\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-182\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-182\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/katie-moore\/files\/2011\/02\/school1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"First Day of School\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-182\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">First Day of School<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In August, I began teaching Josiah full time.\u00a0 With just one student, I was still able to continue learning language and building friendships with the local ladies.\u00a0 Josiah quickly made friends with the tribal boys, learning to lasso pigs and cows and practicing his Spanish.\u00a0 A few months later, when the roads cleaned up a bit, the Davis family came out to join us for some school and work on their house.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">During the months that followed, we were kept very busy with groups who came to help us with house construction.\u00a0 Davises finished their walls and added a roof to their home and Alkires laid their foundation and poured a cement floor.\u00a0 These trips were a lot of work, but a sure reminder of God&#8217;s provision and other believer&#8217;s generosity.<\/div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_168\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-168\" style=\"width: 585px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-168    \" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/katie-moore\/files\/2011\/02\/DSC_0117.JPG\" alt=\"Making Friends\" width=\"585\" height=\"392\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/katie-moore\/files\/2011\/02\/DSC_0117.JPG 3872w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/katie-moore\/files\/2011\/02\/DSC_0117-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/katie-moore\/files\/2011\/02\/DSC_0117-1024x685.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 585px) 100vw, 585px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-168\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Making Friends<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">\n<figure id=\"attachment_163\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-163\" style=\"width: 120px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-163 \" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/katie-moore\/files\/2011\/02\/DSC_0045-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Pouring the Floor\" width=\"120\" height=\"120\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-163\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pouring the Floor<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In November we headed out of the tribe for the first time since summer, making a trip to the city to take care of paperwork that gives us permission to be in the country.\u00a0 We celebrated Thanksgiving with our co-workers in town, and took advantage of fun &#8220;extras&#8221; like ice cubes, food that we didn&#8217;t have to cook, and hot showers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_154\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-154\" style=\"width: 240px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-154 \" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/katie-moore\/files\/2011\/02\/October-2010-206-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Hand Woven Bags\" width=\"240\" height=\"160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/katie-moore\/files\/2011\/02\/October-2010-206-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/katie-moore\/files\/2011\/02\/October-2010-206-1024x682.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-154\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hand Woven Bags<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Before we knew it, it was time to repack the truck and head home to host an eye clinic for the Nahuatl people.\u00a0 We saw over 100 people, outfitting more than half of them with new glasses.\u00a0 Many of the tribal women do intricate needlework, so it was encouraging to see them helped with their vision.\u00a0 We know that before we can speak to people&#8217;s spiritual health we must show our concern for their physical well-being.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_181\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-181\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-181\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/katie-moore\/files\/2011\/02\/eyes2-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"May We Give Sight to the Blind\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/katie-moore\/files\/2011\/02\/eyes2-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/katie-moore\/files\/2011\/02\/eyes2.jpg 427w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-181\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">May We Give Sight to the Blind<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>By the time December rolled around, we had already lived in our new home for more than half a year.\u00a0 We decided a break and some time apart would be healthy for the three of us families that had been living in the same home, so headed to the U.S. for Christmas.\u00a0 I was able to surprise my parents in Florida and was joined by my siblings;
