Why are you an advocate for NTM?
Lee: I was active in my faith but God began stirring in my heart a desire to do more. After researching multiple missionary organizations, there was one that began to stand out. New Tribes Mission has a unique focus on fulfilling the great commission by targeting unreached people groups. I knew there were a lot of good things I could be a part of but this is fulfilling the primary purpose of the Church.
The other thing that stood out to me was NTM’s training program. I could tell they were serious about getting the job done and doing it well.
Kayla: As a student at the NTM training center I got to know many of the missionary staff. The thing that stood out to me was the heart of the individuals, whatever role they were serving in, to live in obedience to the command to reach the lost.
What do you do to help promote the work of NTM?
Lee: I have had the privilege of drawing in people that I work with. I help them to see that while there are many other charities and ministries, this is vital and stands out. Just today, our CPA commented on the amount of our charitable giving. It gave me an opportunity to share about the ministry of NTM and why we support them.
I understand that the organization and individual missionaries need support in order to get the job done. I enjoy working with other believers to gain awareness of NTM, to get involved and to promote NTM at their Church.
Kayla: We have a heart to be a part of what NTM is doing. We are involved in the lives of individuals who are doing the work. It is in those relationships that we feel like we are a part of the mission.
What would you say to others who may be interested in being an advocate?
Lee: This is a call to action. Don’t wait for everything to be “perfect”. “Now” is the time.
Also, every little bit counts. Don’t talk yourself out of it by thinking that your contribution is insignificant. I would also encourage others to think beyond money and consider “tithing of your time.”
I know this may be controversial, but this is a way for us to get directly involved, on top of tithing. And ultimately, giving to NTM is supporting the work of the body to accomplish the big picture purpose of the body.
In the past I have given to the church because it was “my duty”. Now, I like to give to a specific cause that I can really get behind because of their focus.
Kayla: Sometimes we are held back by uncertainty. The idea that there are too many unknowns and feeling like it would be too big of a commitment.
There are so many ways to get involved in the heart of Christ and what God is doing through NTM. It’s a great opportunity.
It is rewarding to build relationships with the individuals that are getting the job done. It feels like a real partnership and that we are truly involved. It goes beyond the generic, “I give to missions”.
