“…for we walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Cor. 5:7)
This descriptive phrase of the Christian’s outlook on life is found in the context of living our natural life on earth while knowing our real life is in Heaven, with Christ. It seems to be reminding us that when something (or everything) we experience in this life shouts against all we understand of God’s kind, compassionate, gracious, and good nature, we can still count on the true, unchanging character of God. What we experience is “by sight”; the objective truth about God that we count on is “by faith”. We honor God and worship Him when we live by faith in His loving character in spite of what all life’s experiences may be saying to us. Jesus said, “…blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29b NIV)
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. … to be conformed to the image of his Son…” (Romans 8:28-29a NIV)
