Hello from our jungle home. Summer has arrived, and we can tell because the heat has started to settle, and the cicadas have started their song that lasts all day.\u00a0Click here\u00a0<\/a>to listen in on what we hear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In our last update, we mentioned visitors. We arrived in the village over a month ago, and on the very same day, we welcomed a dear friend from New Jersey. Jerry and his friend Errol spent two nights with us. It had been a dream of ours for many years to have Jerry visit, and God worked out all the details. We enjoyed hearing them both share in the Sunday meeting before they returned to town.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Electricity:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Once we started getting settled in, we had to work on the electricity. Most of you know that we have a mini-hydroelectric system here in the village. It\u2019s a wonderful setup when everything is working – but it does require some hands-on attention from time to time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ron talked me through what needed to be done. We discovered that the relay, which sends excess electricity to a heating element, wasn\u2019t functioning properly because the element itself had corroded. I\u2019ve ordered a replacement, but in the meantime, I was able to wire the old one back together well enough to keep things running. That\u2019s what you see with the wooden lid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the middle of all this, we once again realized that our batteries are nearing the end of their lifespan. Even so, we\u2019re grateful \u2014 the system is working well for now, and we thank the Lord for sustaining it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Translation: <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Thank you for praying. It took a couple of weeks to start checking the translation because my assistant was away, but once he returned, we made good progress. We were able to check Obadiah, Micah, Nahum, and Habakkuk, and we are now working through Psalm 61-150.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please continue to pray for clarity and accuracy. One example of the kinds of things we work through is the word\u00a0“sanctuary” (or “temple” in some translations)\u00a0in Psalms 61 and 63. Since King David wrote these psalms long before the temple was built, we know he wasn\u2019t referring to the temple as we think of it. And because he wasn\u2019t a priest, we know he didn’t enter the tabernacle, which was only for priests. Sorting through these issues is important, and your prayers make a real difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
