Taking Chances

February 18, 2018 by Levi and Robyn Lenz

I got woken up at midnight last night by a friend coming to tell me that a young lady was sick and needed taken to the local hospital. (Our team occasionally uses our vehicle as an ambulance of sorts to transport people to the hospital in emergency situations.) It’s always a concern to go at night (especially on weekends) as that is when the drunks are out in force (driving, walking on the road, laying on the road because it is still hot from the day’s sun, etc.). Our vehicle has been “stoned” with bottles twice on such hospital runs and nearly hit with a huge stone. Last night there was a drunk who had run off the road (nobody injured) and the vehicle was stuck in the ditch. I thanked the Lord for removing them out of my way.

We frequently wonder if the night trip to the hospital is worth the gamble. People often tell us that we should only take people from our church to the hospital in the night. I’m glad the love of Christ wasn’t so prejudice as he often dined with sinners and tax collectors and healed the multitudes without bias. When those recommendations arise I point to a situation where we took the gamble and took an elderly lady with a broken leg to the hospital one night. Her son couldn’t shake the fact that we took a chance and considered his mother’s well being over our own and he brought his family and friends the Bible teaching and about 13 of them came into the family of Christ as a result. That time it was worth it! Last night as I drove to the hospital, I prayed that God would bring something good out of this trip as well. We never know what God has in store. Please join me in praying for this family.
