Well, another week is over. This week, this kids discovered an amazing new playground and we finished the first section of our Linguistics class, “Phonology”. Today is also Scout’s 3rd birthday party (yesterday was her birthday). The weather continues to amaze us: it’s dry, and a couple of days ago, it hit 71.
Last week, I mentioned that I was in the middle of a ten-day linguistic problem. I just finished it Thursday night, and we don’t even have homework this weekend, so I’m excited about that. I like this class and what we are learning in it, but it is stretching my mind, and I wouldn’t call it easy. Each week, and with each problem we work on, I get a little more insight into what working with a tribal language might be like. I think the main thing is that it will be new. No one else will have analyzed the language like we will do, so who is there to answer questions about it? It’ll be different too; every language is unique, though they come from families of language. So I look forward to it, while realizing that it will certainly have its challenges.
On a lighter note, we took the kids to a new playground this week. We put pictures of them up on facebook, so you can see them there. We’ll probably post some new pictures every few weeks or so. And not just of the playground. At this new one, they have rope swings over a little creek. They have swings made out of big plastic culvert type things hanging from ropes. They have a big rope net hanging between trees. There’s a slide too, and some smaller swings. So it has everything playground-wise that the kids could hope for this semester. They love it.
Scout received lots of amazing things in the mail this week for her birthday, including polka-dot boots, an apron and some new clothes which suit her perfectly. There was even a new movie, so Elroy didn’t feel too left out. Alisha has been making decorations for her party for some time now, and has them up all over the house. Scout will have some of her friends over, and Alisha has made “princess” cupcakes, so everyone is sure to have a good time.
This semester, they will have what they call a field fair; representatives from different fields all over the world will come, and present information on their countries. We look forward to getting more information about different countries, especially “Asia Pacific”. This happens in the middle of March. We’ve been in training for 6+ years, so thinking about picking a country, going to a tribe and working with people who have never heard the Gospel is exciting.
Praise:
-Continued learning in class
-Scout having a good birthday
-Field fair is coming up
Prayer:
-The guy that I was meeting with at the Lighthouse is now working on Thursday nights (which is when we are there); pray for a different work schedule so he can come and hear the teaching and we can hang out
-Wisdom in deciding on a country and getting relevant information during the field fair
-Finances
Thanks!
