Things happen every week, but sometimes they’re mostly routine. That was the case this week.
We are finishing up a section in linguistics, so we are working in teams on a big problem right now. One exciting thing that happened was with a guy at the Lighthouse. He had been in jail for driving drunk (and some other things) before he came to the Lighthouse. He’s been there for about ten months awaiting sentencing. His court date was pushed back once, but he finally had his hearing this Monday. He was looking at up to 29 years in prison. And he deserved it. I won’t explain everything, but he knew he deserved it. He was prepared to go to prison.
But God has done a lot of work in him since he initially went to jail a year or two ago, and we’ve been hoping he wouldn’t have to do time. It turned out they miraculously (it’s a good story) only gave him five years of probation- no prison. But the most exciting part about it is not that he’s not going to prison; rather, I think it’s cool to see how he was ready to walk with God and be his witness, whether inside or out of the prison.
The field fair is this week. We’ve been excited that we’ll get to see information on different countries, but especially what is now called ‘Asia Pacific’. We’re having the field representative over for supper Wednesday, so we’ll be able to ask him all our questions.
We also had a past Ling graduate come this week and tell us about his experience in Oklahoma. He gave us tips on how to save money and prepare for the project we’ll be doing there. We’ll be there for seven weeks from August to October. Then we’ll probably come back here to the MTC to finish our official write-up. It sounds like it’ll be both fun and hard.
This Thursday, I’ll be teaching on the story of Cain and Abel at the Lighthouse to a small group of guys, some of whom are not believers. One unfortunate thing did happen this week… yesterday, we took the kids to one of the playground for some pre-supper fun. While there, Scout fell on the sidewalk and broke her glasses. So we need to take her to Wal-Mart and see if they’ll take our insurance so we can get her the new bifocals she needs.
Praise:
-Jon at the Lighthouse who is not going to prison
-The advent of spring
-Another good week of classes and life
Prayer:
-Jon at the Lighthouse to continue walking with God
-To find out as much as we can about Asia Pacific during the field fair
-Wal-Mart to take our insurance for Scout’s glasses
-We are hoping to meet up with my sister and brother-in-law at Easter
-Teaching about Cain and Abel at the Lighthouse Thursday
Thanks!
