The Swing of Things

September 4, 2019 by Lincoln and Alisha McIlroy

I just realized it has been a couple months since our last update. Time has really flown like the proverbial arrow.
Overall, things are going well. We are learning to get things done with less manpower. I think we are starting to enjoy our jobs, because we feel like these things are really ours to get done. Up until recently, we were being trained, but now we are getting to be the ones making sure things get done.
We had 2 new families and 2 singles arrive about a month and a half ago, and we have been busy helping them and making sure they get started on their language studying. So far they are doing well. There is a certain amount of satisfaction in helping someone make progress in learning something as difficult as another language.
In addition to that, rather unexpectedly (or just with less notice ahead of time), we had another family move to town to fill a specific short-term need. So we have been even busier helping them get settled and face some of the unique challenges of their situation.
Elroy and Scout have been in school almost a month now. They are doing swim club and are starting to learn things that I don’t know how to explain for their homework. Elroy’s birthday (his 12th) is this week and he is excited for that.
Davy has been starting to talk a bit more and even uses a couple words in the local language. The scary thing is, he is starting to like all the attention he gets for being a little white toddler. We recently had a minor scare with him. He woke up early one morning around 3 and was quivering off and on, apparently in a lot of pain. We thought it might be appendicitis at first, but in the end it turned out he was just constipated and needed to get it out. Apart from that, he is usually a fun guy to have around.
We look forward to the coming year, but there will be a lot of challenges with not a lot of help.

Praise:
-School starting back up and the kids getting back into the swing of things there
-We are starting to get used to our routines and what needs to be done here

Prayer:
-Pray that Davis will learn to deal with his poop issues- it seems like he is able, but he is just scared to do it
-We are hoping to buy a new computer soon so that we can both be working on things at the same time instead of taking turns on the one we have
-We recently had one co-worker arrive back here, but in a couple months, another couple from our team will be retiring

Thanks for all your continued prayers and support!
