In these days I got the sad news that another Mengen believer has passed away. He and his family are very precious to me. When we moved into the area in 2009, this family was the first to open their hearts and home to me and Marie. It’s very very hard for me, as they have become my family! I would want to be there with them. I would want to spend a few days with them, standing at their backs! But this is God’s plan for me for now.
As you know we are not working among the Mengen on our own! We are part of a much larger team. It all starts back here at home and stretches all the way to where we are working. And each link is vital. Check out this blog, and see how you can be part of this chain reaching the Mengen.
Before we enter any people group, we first conduct different surveys. We thus first visit specific people groups who often invite us to come and live amongst them, to help us evaluate what the need is and to present to them the purpose of what we are wanting to come and do. Last year I […]
The “hausboi” is a Pidgen term, for a men’s house. In Mengen they call it “Giunga.” In our Mengen culture, this is a house only for men. Young boys used to leave their homes and move into the men’s house when they are between 10 – 13 years old and then they get introduces to […]
It is now 6 months since we arrived here in South Africa. And even though we long for our home back in Papua New Guinea, we can thankfully summarize by saying, “The Laureti’s are doing very well”. Those first few weeks here felt like a whirlwind… landing in JHB, some medical appointments, seeing friends and […]
Many moons ago, a nervous me, landed in our bush village between the Mengen valleys and mountains. It was only for a short visit, to meet our future co-workers and meet the Mengen friends amongst whom we would live for the next roughly 20 years of our lives. During this time I met Brus and […]
Hi Friends Marie and I have been sharing this morning about our joys and tribulations as missionaries in Papua New Guinea, and it was interesting to note, that our joys are actually our tribulations when handled correctly. One of these challenges for us was to have to raise a special needs child in our family. […]
Hi Friends Its always amazing to see how God is planting His church worldwide but also in Papua New Guinea amongst the Mengen people. Not many years ago they were in darkness, but many have placed their trust in Christ and now they are goring into a self-sufficient church! Just this morning, I received the […]
Hi Friends I know its long since I have written about how we are doing and how life is rolling on here on this side of the earth. So it’s about time to share a bit of my heart again, I know many of you appreciated the fact that we are showing our hearts and being […]
Hi Friends Kamilus and Sepin are a very special married couple, with 7 beautiful children. They became believers a couple of years ago and have had a radiant testimony ever since. Although they are a young, quiet couple, they have taken a stand for Christ in the midst of persecution. We are so thrilled to […]
Bruce and Apite (ah-pe-tay) Before he was saved, Bruce was a real trouble-maker. We got to know him as a drunkard and thief, who gave us missionaries a real hard time. but through Gods grace he attended the teaching many years ago and both he and his wife became believers. Now he is a changed […]

Hi Friends Hope you are all very well! As you know I regularly go to visit other villages , especially in light of our outreaches getting off the ground. To get to these villages is a real challenge as you know. During our 9 hour hike , we breathe sticky humid air and sweat without […]
Hi Friends Thanks to all of you who pray with us and support us! May God richly bless you for your help. Here are some prayer requests for the next few weeks. – I’m going to put in extra time to prepare lessons for 1 Corinthians and 1 Timothy during these next few weeks. – […]
The longer we stay among the Mengen people the less we can hide who we truly are. It is tough to be subjected to constant scrutiny and we are watched day and night all days of the week. Here are some of the things the Mengen people say and think about us. – Will […]
