After a few months being at the Journey, The First Baptist Church of Orange City, we began to meet different people and get involved. Having a desire for missions since 2000, it was fitting that we got involved at the Journey with their global ministry, Bringing Hope to Haiti. We talked with the mission coordinators and shared our heart for missions as they shared their hearts for Haiti. The vision of the Journey was to support indigenous church planting in the Artibonite region of Haiti which is about two hours north of Port au Prince along Route 1. After about nine months from our first meeting with the mission coordinators, we were on the plane for our first short term mission trip to Haiti. It was a complete life changing event and nothing like we had ever imagined. God essentially taught us that we were not necessarily going to Haiti to help the Haitians but rather we were participating in a ministry in Haiti so God could refine our character. The trip was amazing because God worked in our hearts to give us compassion and love for other people as he loves them. That would not be the last time we visited Haiti.
After that first trip we went on two more in the next year and continued to serve as team trainers and consultants for each trip as well as organize the Haiti Prayer & Praise Ministry. Along with serving on the Haiti team at the Journey, we are involved in other ministries such as the Prayer Ministry and before the Prayer Ministry started we served as 4-5 year old Sunday school teachers. We are Life Group Leaders hosting a Life Group in our home each Friday night, a time where a few families come together to pray and fellowship and apply the word of God taught on Sunday mornings. Of all the ministries we have been involved in over the years, the most important one we are most passionate about is the ministry of raising our three children.
