{"id":480,"date":"2021-11-12T18:36:52","date_gmt":"2021-11-13T00:36:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/matt-long\/?p=480"},"modified":"2021-11-12T18:36:55","modified_gmt":"2021-11-13T00:36:55","slug":"what-did-the-pilgrims-have-to-be-thankful-for","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/matt-long\/2021\/11\/12\/what-did-the-pilgrims-have-to-be-thankful-for\/","title":{"rendered":"What did the Pilgrims have to be Thankful for?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"564\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/31aa8d2d31b3e18299f120386\/images\/ff356d91-c5d3-40b2-9276-8f8d98cf62f3.jpg\"><br>&#8220;Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior.&#8221; -Hab.3:17-18<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>What did the pilgrims have to be thankful for?When the pilgrims left England seeking religious freedom, I wonder what they expected. \u00a0Their original plan of arriving in two ships in New York in October was delayed through various obstacles and due to poor weather\u00a0they ended up arriving\u00a0in Massachusetts on one ship in November. \u00a0They were not prepared for the harsh winter, and over half of them died. \u00a0Not what they expected, to be sure. \u00a0I wonder if they regretted coming. \u00a0I wonder if they thought about going back home. \u00a0I wonder if they felt thankful.<br>And yet, half of them did survive. \u00a0They did stay. \u00a0They did start a new life in a new land worshipping God in a new church. \u00a0And they gave thanks.<br>When life is not what we expect, when our disappointments and griefs are great, when we&#8217;ve left our old life behind only to be unsure about our new one, can we give thanks?<br><br>We have much to be thankful for. \u00a0We are\u00a0thankful that we were\u00a0born in a country with many believers,\u00a0churches, Christian colleges, radio stations, and books. \u00a0We are\u00a0thankful that we\u00a0have not just one but many translations of the Bible in our\u00a0own language. \u00a0We are\u00a0thankful that we\u00a0grew up hearing the truth about Jesus, salvation, and living in Him. \u00a0These are blessings that are not true for most\u00a0people in Papua New Guinea.<br>That&#8217;s why we are\u00a0very thankful for you, our supporters, who enable us to be a part of bringing God&#8217;s Word to peoples who have never had the opportunity to hear it.<br><br>Till all know,<br>Matt, Karissa, Ty, and Wyck<br><br><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"264\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/31aa8d2d31b3e18299f120386\/images\/8130f5d6-b741-8420-b84b-e61fe7325c94.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"264\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/31aa8d2d31b3e18299f120386\/images\/926aae3d-3f67-0aaa-0742-59460abfa176.jpg\"><br><br>Top\/Left: We were thankful to get to share about our ministry with Revive, one of our supporting churches. \u00a0Bottom\/Right: The kids are enjoying time with their cousins.<br><br>Praise God:<br>&#8211; We are nearing the end of our medical appointments<br>&#8211; The boys are doing well with their swimming lessons and Wyck is getting more confident in the water<br>&#8211; Matt&#8217;s new class is less stressful than his last one<br>&#8211; Homeschooling continues to go well<br><br>Please Pray:<br>&#8211; that Karissa&#8217;s neurology appointment next week will go well and that her doctor will be able to prescribe a helpful medication for her headaches<br>&#8211; that Wyck&#8217;s eye appointment next week shows progress<br>&#8211; for continued wisdom for Matt in balancing school and other responsibilities<br>&#8211; that we can use these next six months well as our home assignment is now halfway through<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>What are we supporting?
