We have now been in Senegal for six months and I am sure you are all VERY curious about our next move! When we first arrived in Senegal we thought that possibly ALL our French study would take place here in Dakar. However, we soon learned it was possible (and preferable) to do the latter part of our French in Conakry! This will allow us to start getting to know the culture and locations of Guinea and start forming relationships there. During that time we will be hosted by a local church and and live in close proximity to a Guinean family who will take us under their wings and help us ‘learn the ropes’ of life in Guinea. Now that we are almost finished with the first few phases of French we are making some tentative plans to move to Conakry, Guinea in September! This next phase will be going on through the next year.
How Can You Help?
As we look at this move, we are preparing for some extra expenses:
Note: Not a picture of us…yet! ;)
Travel: We’ve been told that it would probably be a wise thing (and possibly a necessity) to have a vehicle once we are in Guinea. This is both from security standpoint and from a “getting-around-the-city-more easily” standpoint. We are also looking into the logistics of traveling down to Guinea by vehicle instead of flying down. Air travel looks like it would run us $3,000-$4,000. So our tentative plan is to buy a vehicle (hopefully a rugged used truck big enough for our family) and drive down. We would rather raise money that could serve us in the long run than just invest in a quicker flight down. Even used vehicles cost more here than we would expect in the US! Based on our research we are thinking we will need around $10,000-$15,000 for a good used vehicle! Please pray with us that the Lord would provide the necessary funds and the right vehicle (or one to borrow until we are able to buy one). If you are interested in giving toward this need, you can send money to our home office (info here: https://blogs.ethnos360.org/michael-dore/give/ ) with a note that it is for “Michael and Nancy Dore Vehicle Fund”.
Setup: We are very thankful that it looks like even in Guinea we will already have some furniture and appliances, since what we are using now we have been borrowing. However we will still have things (kitchen, bedding, tools) that we may need. So we will probably be buying some of those things when we move, and possibly also be shipping some things to Guinea soon. We have yet to figure out how much that will cost but we will keep you informed. Pray with us for wisdom and provision in this area as well.
We have been very thankful for all the packages we have received here in Dakar! They have been such an encouragement to us. However, they take some time to get here; since we will be moving soon, please do not send any more packages to our address here in Dakar. When we know our address for mail and packages in Guinea we will let you all know! Thanks again!
Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers,
Michael & Nancy Dore
