{"id":74,"date":"2009-10-08T16:57:00","date_gmt":"2009-10-08T21:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/mike-day\/2009\/10\/08\/qa-about-our-journey\/"},"modified":"2009-10-08T16:57:00","modified_gmt":"2009-10-08T21:57:00","slug":"qa-about-our-journey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/mike-day\/2009\/10\/08\/qa-about-our-journey\/","title":{"rendered":"&gt;Q&amp;A about our journey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&gt;<a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_KOwxMC5tII0\/Ss5pK3cZxEI\/AAAAAAAAACw\/ah4olQDhQNw\/s1600-h\/Expand+The+Reach+of+the+Gospel.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin:0px auto 10px;text-align:center;cursor:pointer;cursor:hand;width: 320px;height: 69px\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_KOwxMC5tII0\/Ss5pK3cZxEI\/AAAAAAAAACw\/ah4olQDhQNw\/s320\/Expand+The+Reach+of+the+Gospel.jpeg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<!--StartFragment-->  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><b><span style=\"font-family:Helvetica\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">How are we doing globally on the great commission? <\/span><\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">A<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\"> research initiative called <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.joshuaproject.net\/\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">www.joshuaproject.net<\/span><\/a><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\"> is seeking to bring definition to the unfinished task of the Great Commission.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Helvetica\"><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">  <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">Their research shows that globally there are 6,631<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\"> people groups considered least-reached<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">.<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">  The term &#8220;least-reached&#8221; is defined by things like how much of the Bible has been translated, what&#8217;s the percentage of believers, is there an established church.  <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">The research through New Tribes shows there are about 2,500 unengaged people groups.  Unengaged means there is no Bible translation in progress, no believers within the linguistic group, and no missionaries working among them to change that.<\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\"><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><b><span style=\"font-family:Helvetica\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-weight: normal;font-family:Georgia, serif\"><b><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">Is it even our job to reach the whole world with the Gospel?<\/span><\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\"> \u201cAnd this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to <\/span><i><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">all nations<\/span><\/i><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">, and then the end will come.\u201d(Matt. 24:14)  &#8220;And they sang a new song: &#8220;You are worthy to take the scroll and open it&#8217;s seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from <\/span><i><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">every tribe and language and people and nation.<\/span><\/i><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\"> (Rev. 5:9)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><b><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">There are so many needs here, why not stay and serve the Lord here in the States?  <\/span><\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">We are learning that the work force is out of balance.<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">  <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">Globally about 1% of Christian resources go toward ministries focused on bringing the gospel to un-reached people groups, 9% goes to reached people groups outside the US, and 90% funds ministries for English speaking people.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><b><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">What about your children and their future?<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">  <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">We love our kids!<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">  <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">We want them to be safe and healthy.<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">  <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">We want them to get a good education.<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">  <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">We want them to fall in love with Jesus and grow up to be dedicated followers of Christ. We will do our best to love, nurture, and provide for them wherever we live.<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">  <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">The reality is, there are dangers, trials, and temptations everywhere. We must all trust God every day to give us the strength to endure whatever may come our way.<\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\"><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family:Georgia, serif\"><b><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">What about leaving family and friends?<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">  <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">This will be the hardest part.<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">  <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">In the New Testament Peter says to Jesus <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">\u201cWe have left everything to follow you!\u201d<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">\u201cI tell you the truth,\u201d Jesus said to them, \u201cno one who has left home or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God will fail to receive many times as much in this age and, in the age to come, eternal life.\u201d (Luke 18:29-30)<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">  <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">The point for us is not that we hope to receive material rewards from following Christ.  We believe that walking with God and knowing Him more is the reward.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family:Georgia, serif\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family:Georgia, serif\"><b><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">Should every Christian serve in cross cultural missions?<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">  <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">We don\u2019t think so, but many should.<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">  <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">We believe that God has given every believer different gifts, abilities, and desires to be used in various ways.<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">  <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">\u201c<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">For we are God\u2019s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.  (Eph<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">. 2:10) <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">We are considering cross-cultural ministry because our desires have changed as we became aware of the needs in the world around us.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family:Georgia, serif\"><b><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">How do you know God wants you to go to a foreign mission field?<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">  <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">We are not sure yet.<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">  <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">So many things have happened that lead up to this point. We\u2019re just taking it one step at a time.<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">  <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">We don\u2019t know exactly where God will lead us, but we want to be part of declaring His glory among the nations.  There are ministry role&#8217;s here in the states, overseas at headquarter bases, and right in isolated tribes that all work together to make tribal church planting happen.  We would like to be involved in one of those capacities<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family:Georgia, serif\"><b><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">What will you do differently if God doesn&#8217;t lead you to the foreign mission field?<\/span><\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family:Arial\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\"> We are seeing more and more that geography shouldn&#8217;t change our philanthropy.<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">  <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">John Piper, in his book <\/span><i><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">Let The Nations Be Glad <\/span><\/i><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">says \u201cFor us to be loving we must exalt God, and for God to be loving He must exalt God.<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">  <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">Love is helping people toward God.<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">  <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">We do this by pointing people to the greatness of God.\u201d<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">  <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">We believe that up to this point our preoccupation with comfort, ease, affluence, prosperity, and assumed safety have produced weakness, apathy, and self-centeredness that hinders our ability to truly help others toward God.<\/span><span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">  <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small\">We want that to change wherever we live and work.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>  <!--EndFragment--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&gt; How are we doing globally on the great commission?
