We likewise shopped for a different team.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in\">Scratch cooking only- no kitchen appliances<br \/>\n(incl. microwave, coffee maker, bread machine, kitchenaid, crock pot\u2026), no<br \/>\nprepackaged, instant, or processed foods.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in\">Internet and phone use: 1 hour per week (and no<br \/>\nsocial networking, shopping, or recreational internet usage).<\/span><\/li>\n<table cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" class=\"tr-caption-container\" style=\"float: right;text-align: right\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/static.squarespace.com\/static\/545316b0e4b04718b2f5bf39\/54542c4ee4b01e8046e080c1\/54542c50e4b01e8046e081d9\/1414802512963\/1000w\/\" style=\"clear: right;margin-bottom: 1em;margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"132\" src=\"https:\/\/static.squarespace.com\/static\/545316b0e4b04718b2f5bf39\/54542c4ee4b01e8046e080c1\/54542c50e4b01e8046e081da\/1414802512963\/1000w\/\" width=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"tr-caption\" style=\"text-align: center\">homemade soft pretzels!!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<li><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in\">Limited electricity: At 8pm each evening we had<br \/>\nto turn off every light and rely on candles\/flashlights.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--[if !supportLists]--><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"text-indent: -.25in\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"text-indent: -.25in\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpLast\" style=\"text-indent: -.25in\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nThe biggest impact this had on us was imagining what it may<br \/>\nfeel like to be out of touch with family and friends- both from the lack of<br \/>\nface-to-face contact, and coming out of a culture so deep into instant social<br \/>\nnetworking. In all honesty, it\u2019s already been difficult over these years of<br \/>\ntraining to be away from \u2018home\u2019- it is tempting to feel like we are forgotten<br \/>\nabout since we\u2019re not there (and we\u2019re still in the States with phones and<br \/>\ninternet!). <b>We\u2019re increasingly aware of the need to be encouraging each other<br \/>\nas the Body of Christ and praying for one another. <i>Challenge: Contact a<br \/>\nmissionary, or even a long-distance friend\/family member! We used a compass and a map to locate our campsite (aka: random spot in the woods), and built a shelter (waterproof, \u2018warm\u2019) with tarps.<br \/>\nNoe built a fantastic shelter (see photos), and we spent three chilly nights there with some of our classmates, with classes &nbsp;(i.e.<br \/>\nknife sharpening, chainsaws, chicken butchering, etc.), and cooking our meals over a fire. A teacher of the Bible<br \/>\nMUST understand the culture, beliefs, behaviors and motivations, and influences<br \/>\nof the people being spoken to!
