{"id":276,"date":"2015-05-18T01:13:11","date_gmt":"2015-05-18T01:13:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/swensontribe.wordpress.com\/?p=276"},"modified":"2015-05-18T01:13:11","modified_gmt":"2015-05-18T01:13:11","slug":"what-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/paul-swenson\/2015\/05\/18\/what-country\/","title":{"rendered":"What Country?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color:#000000\"><strong>Our vision\u00a0for the future&#8230;<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color:#000000\"> An obvious question that we are asked a lot is &#8220;where do you plan to serve?&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0Naturally if we are planning to do the work of tribal church planting, Bible translating, etc. we need to decide on a country to work in&#8230; with languages\u00a0that do not have a Bible yet.\u00a0Actually we cannot apply to any particular country until we have graduated from the training and applied for official membership with New Tribes Mission. \u00a0<strong>However<\/strong>, recently, with the collected counsel and prayers of our home Pastor and elders as well as our friends that we hope to work with someday, Craig and Sara Noyes we started to ask questions to\u00a0NTM leadership in different countries\u00a0and find out information about the possibilities and pray! \u00a0We made a decision in late April to head in the direction of Papua New Guinea. \u00a0Lord willing, we would like to be in Papua New Guinea by the end of 2017 on the New Tribes base there, learning the national language (which helps us\u00a0&#8220;get around&#8221; and communicate simply to the villagers we&#8217;ll be working with). \u00a0That would be the first step&#8230; about a 9 month time period. \u00a0By the end of learning the national language (which is a simpler one to learn) we would hope to have an idea of the tribe we&#8217;d like to work in and be heading there to build homes, settle in and begin\u00a0learning the tribal language and culture to eventually teach them God&#8217;s Word for the first time!\u00a0 We are very excited to have a direction to be heading in which helps us make other decisions.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color:#000000\"> In the meanwhile, we will be graduating from the training here in December. \u00a0We are praying about whether we finish our support raising after that or start support raising, take an advanced linguistics course in Missouri and then finish our support raising. \u00a0The course would run from April to summer and then all fall until December of 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/paul-swenson\/files\/2015\/05\/flag-of-papua-new-guinea.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-280\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/paul-swenson\/files\/2015\/05\/flag-of-papua-new-guinea.png?w=300\" alt=\"Flag of Papua New Guinea\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/paul-swenson\/files\/2015\/05\/flag-of-papua-new-guinea.png 600w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/paul-swenson\/files\/2015\/05\/flag-of-papua-new-guinea-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000\"><strong>What Have We Been Up To?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color:#000000\"> Paul and Ellen are working on finishing up their classes and preparing the family for a 6 week Jungle Camp practicum. \u00a0The family will design and build a simple structure and live in it with the other families in training. \u00a0It is a great opportunity to learn about field technology and family\/ friend dynamics in an isolated environment (among other things). \u00a0We are looking forward to some visitors in the next few weeks as well! \u00a0The kids are also finishing up with school. \u00a0There is a field day this week and other end-of-the-year fun events! \u00a0If you would like to contact us during Jungle Camp&#8230; we can only receive LETTERS!!! \u00a0Feel free to write us a snail mail letter. \u00a0Our address is\u00a0The Swensons c\/o NTM Canada P.O.
