To The Jungle and Back!\u00a0 <\/strong>(Sort of)<\/div>\n

We have\u00a0just finished our 6 week\u00a0“Jungle Camp” Practicum.\u00a0 For the first two weeks\u00a0we designed and built a “cabin” made of duct tape, small logs and plastic complete with a natural clay covered\/ wood fired oven.\u00a0 Then for the next four weeks we lived\u00a0there.\u00a0\u00a0We also\u00a0had different tasks along the way like learning to cut hair and butcher a chicken.\u00a0 We also spent one week studying the Bible for 6\u00a0hours a day per adult.\u00a0 This\u00a0was to replicate the time it would take to\u00a0work on culture and language learning each day\u00a0on the mission field.\u00a0 Husbands and wives had to\u00a0learn how to take\u00a0turns studying and watching the kids.<\/p>\n

Our family really enjoyed this experience.\u00a0 It was a great “adventure” to look forward to as the boys said good bye (for now) to several friends whose families moved on from the training campus here in Canada the day before we started building.\u00a0\u00a0Jungle\u00a0Camp\u00a0was also\u00a0a great experience\u00a0of living in a closed community.\u00a0 On the\u00a0mission field, we will only see the villagers and our team mates for weeks and sometimes months at a time.\u00a0 In an\u00a0isolated environment like that it is important to have unity and concern for each other.\u00a0 The practicum was also a chance to experience things not always going as planned.\u00a0 We hear that happens a lot overseas:)\u00a0 Expectations are\u00a0usually unhelpful.\u00a0 Being flexible is key.\u00a0 Even with\u00a0some surprises,\u00a0the\u00a0practicum was enjoyed\u00a0by\u00a0the entire family and it ended too soon.\u00a0 However, we now look forward to seeing family and church friends in Indiana and Ohio over the next few weeks until classes start again in mid August!<\/p>\n
