It was a big thing on our list to get checked off, and we were happy to have it finished.

I’m not a fan of shots or blood being drawn. If you’ve heard my Red Cross stories you know why. I was quite nervous to say the least. Whenever you get travel vaccines, they usually come with a consultation to make sure you get the right ones for the right continent. Nurse Holly was our consultant and did an amazing job. I’m pretty sure that by the end of the consult I was glad to get vaccines! People aren’t always nice, but Holly was very inviting and sweet– for that I’m thankful.

<<Here’s Payton getting 1cc of Hep A injected into one arm and 0.5cc of TdaP in the other. By the end of the day my arms felt like I’d done 100 push ups.

I was a “baby” (according to Payton) and asked if I could lay down. Nurse Holly didn’t mock me at all (another bonus point for her!). Shots make me woozy. I know it’s all in my head, but laying down seems to divert the psychological response of terror, so I did.

I’m not going to lie–they made me feel yucky. The first two days I needed naps and drug myself around the house kind of mopey-like. The dancing Typhoid pill wasn’t fun either, contrary to the advertisement on the picture.

But, I am thankful that these are available! And I’m also thankful that NTM does a great job preparing us and has some amazing people over in AP keeping us informed of what we need. I’m also thankful to the people who’ve been supporting us so that we can even get these vaccines in the first place!

In the event that you feel a bit tentative about taking a live virus pill, don’t worry, Viviotif will convince you with their brochure!
