I do. I’d like to clarify that I don’t really like being surprised by people jumping out of the dark and yelling. So, last post, I mentioned two surprise eggs. This post also involves a surprise egg, but one with a cute little (live) chicky coming out.

Payton was extremely sneaky and surprised me on the first day of our road trip to Colorado. This is a feat, mind you, since I usually keep track of the credit card and bills online. But he did it. I really did wonder why we were stopping at Chipotle downtown Chicago, but sometimes Chipotles are hard to find so I didn’t really notice, even though I did think it was odd. So when Payton says, “Do you want to stop at Chipotle BEFORE or AFTER we stop a the Museum of Science and Industry?” I started freaking out. I hadn’t been since high school and had always wanted to go again, but mostly I was so surprised that he surprised me!

They had tsunami simulator which showed the effects of different types of seismic activity in the ocean based on the type of shore line and such. Tsunamis aren’t a foreign occurance in Asia Pacific, that’s for sure. As another part of their weather exhibit, we observed a vortex. I don’t think we’ll be seeing any vortexes in AP, but they might be a part of our summer with all of this extreme weather going on!

Anyway, like I said, there were surprise eggs! We got to see chickens hatching and hobbling around. They had a look of confusion since they were born in a museum on a grate instead of in a barn or a mudroom, but it was still fun to see chicks!!

And since I’ve almost conquered my liver troubles (thank you Lord!), I took a picture with a digestive exhibit!

But, the reason Payton remembered the museum in the first place was how I’d talked about the baby exhibit. This was my favorite when I first visited during high school. I love how it brought dignity to the babies that had died and also brought a sense of personhood to each of them, even in the smallest stages of their lives. I love when it points out that they have fingernails even when you can barely see their fingers! I’m so thankful that Payton surprised me!

If you didn’t know it, I like surprises. I do.
