Our daughter, <strong>Heather<\/strong>,   is in Colorado learning to fly.\u00a0 She is   under a lot of stress as she needs to pass this 4 week period or she will not   be able to continue with her pilot training.\u00a0   Please pray\u00a0 for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">widsom and peace for her to accept God\u2019s best for   her<\/span>.\u00a0 <strong>Cody, <\/strong>continues doing   well with his aviation mechanics classes in Jacksonville.\u00a0 He will be home next weekend to visit for   his 22<sup>nd<\/sup> birthday.\u00a0 He is   involved in helping with the youth in a local church. Pray for a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">consistent   walk with the Lord and good grades for him<\/span>.\u00a0 <strong>Haley<\/strong> celebrated   her 18<sup>th<\/sup> birthday<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_871\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-871\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-871\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/phil-burns\/files\/2011\/04\/P3091388-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Haley's 18th birthday!\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/phil-burns\/files\/2011\/04\/P3091388-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/phil-burns\/files\/2011\/04\/P3091388-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/phil-burns\/files\/2011\/04\/P3091388-600x450.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/phil-burns\/files\/2011\/04\/P3091388-147x110.jpg 147w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/phil-burns\/files\/2011\/04\/P3091388-250x188.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-871\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Haley&#39;s 18th birthday!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>last month.\u00a0   Right now she is in a stressful time of deciding whether to go to   Bible School in Wisconsin or attend Stetson University \u2013 a small, private,   local university which has offered her a scholarship.\u00a0 Please pray for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">wisdom in knowing the Lord\u2019s will for her in this   situation<\/span>.\u00a0 Our greatest desire is   that our children will have please the Lord with their lives.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">\n<dl>\n<dt> <\/dt>\n<dd> <\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>We   have an \u201cadopted daughter\u201d, Lauren Bender, living with us these days.\u00a0 Lauren was an MK from another mission who   lived in our dorm while we were in Bolivia and is friends with our children.\u00a0 She was seeing doctors in this area for   some medical problems and has decided to live here and take some college   classes.\u00a0 She will also be looking for   a job.<\/p>\n<p>Phil and I are keeping busy as usual. The   volunteers have all left so Phil is just finishing up some \u201cloose ends\u201d in   the carpenter shop. \u00a0I, (Jackie), as   part of my job, have just finished proofreading the text for <strong>Firm   Foundations: Secure in Christ<\/strong>, the next set of lessons in the Building on Firm   Foundations series.\u00a0 This series is a Bible   study series that centers on God&#8217;s progressive revelation of His character   and plan of redemption from Creation to Christ. \u00a0It is   similar to that used by missionaries with the tribal people, but written for people   in our culture.\u00a0 The one I was   proofreading will be used to teach those who have already trusted the Lord   and want to grow in their spiritual lives.<\/p>\n<p>Mission   News from around the world:<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Akolets<\/span><\/strong>:   In our January letter we told you a little about the Akolets beginning to   hear the Word of God taught.\u00a0 This is   the Continuing Story\u2014<\/p>\n<p>Teaching began among the Akolet people in Papua New Guinea on January 4, 2011&#8230;Here are   some exciting news clips from missionaries working with this group\u2026<\/p>\n<p>(January 26) Gelio,   an Akolet man,\u00a0 is trying desperately   to put all the pieces together.\u00a0 Each day he comes up with new   questions.\u00a0 But today&#8217;s question was this:<br \/>\n&#8220;So I&#8217;m really confused.\u00a0 You&#8217;re saying that God can&#8217;t be with   anything that&#8217;s not perfect.\u00a0 And Adam and Eve (and all of us as well)   sinned.\u00a0 But that somehow there&#8217;s a Rescuer that&#8217;s going to come and   rescue us.\u00a0 So how is he going to rescue us?\u00a0 We&#8217;re already   sinners!\u00a0 And we can&#8217;t be with God! How will he help us humans?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Adam ( one of the missionaries) said, &#8220;That question is pretty much the   WHOLE REASON we&#8217;ve come to live with you and bring you this message!\u00a0   Keep coming, and you will learn the answer.&#8221; Then later our co-worker   Ryan asked Gelio, &#8220;So what is this new teaching like to you?&#8221;\u00a0   Gelio said, very solemnly, &#8220;Ryan, it&#8217;s like this.\u00a0 Remember that   cake you gave me one time?\u00a0 This teaching is like that cake.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve never   tasted anything like it, and it is so delicious.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Evangelistic Bible teaching among the Akolets was scheduled to reach the   death, burial and resurrection of Christ on April 8 but because of some   cultural issues the lessons were concluded earlier.\u00a0 At the conclusion of the lesson Waklo and   Amos, a mother and daughter, spoke: \u201cThere&#8217;s no other way!\u201d they agreed.   \u201cIt&#8217;s only belief in Jesus&#8217; death! We can&#8217;t do anything to add to that. He   didn&#8217;t \u2018half\u2019 His work. He finished it and said, \u2018It&#8217;s all done!\u2019\u201d\u00a0 On Friday, another woman, Liwa, came to see   one of the missionaries,   Julie. \u201cShe had this big smile on her face and said, \u2018I&#8217;ve come just to tell   you that I&#8217;ve realized I&#8217;m a sinner and that Jesus is the only way to be made   right with God. \u2018I&#8217;m not in Satan&#8217;s fence <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-884\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/phil-burns\/files\/2011\/04\/missionary-akolet-woman-300x151.jpg\" alt=\"missionary &amp; akolet woman\" width=\"300\" height=\"151\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/phil-burns\/files\/2011\/04\/missionary-akolet-woman-300x151.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/phil-burns\/files\/2011\/04\/missionary-akolet-woman-180x91.jpg 180w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/phil-burns\/files\/2011\/04\/missionary-akolet-woman-250x126.jpg 250w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/phil-burns\/files\/2011\/04\/missionary-akolet-woman.jpg 595w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>anymore! Jesus took me and put me   in his fence!\u00a0 I am a sinner, but He rescued me.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As of March 31 there were 13 Akolet believers and more have come to know   the Lord since then.\u00a0 There is   opposition from another religious group. The opposition has caused attendance   to dwindle significantly over the last two weeks but the missionaries feel   this is God\u2019s way of separating those who really aren\u2019t interested in hearing   the truth.\u00a0 Please continue to pray   for\u00a0 the Holy Spirit to open the   spiritual eyes of the Akolet people and for missionaries Adam and Julie   Martin and Ryan and Sarah Warner as they continue to teach God\u2019s Word to the   Akolet.
