The weekend was very full with leadership meetings each day. We praise the Lord for His guidance in the works here in Southeast Africa. Sometimes we feel pressure to make decisions and it was good to be reminded that we must depend on His leading, not on our own wisdom.

Monday’s teaching session was cancelled because an important religious leader from our area died and his funeral coincided with the teaching. We cancelled the teaching and all went to the funeral, which was quite big. The religious leader was from this area but didn’t live here so we didn’t know him well. It was a good time to reconnect with people who came from far and wide to the funeral.

On Wednesday we had official visits from the local government leaders. We were called on to provide lunch for the delegation. About 20 of the local leaders showed up and we spent the morning preparing lunch and listening to the interaction between the leaders and the population. More wells, better health care, and lower taxes dominated the agenda (the head of household must pay a tax of 50 US cents annually, up from about 35 cents last year). The lunch ended about 20 minutes before the scheduled start of the teaching and then the delegation went off to another nearby location to hold another set of meetings with the next community.

On a personal note, Elin found herself flat out in bed again, sick with a combination stomach flu/chest cold. It seems her immune system has taken a serious plunge! Thankfully, after a few days of rest and some medication, she am feeling a little better.

This week we had lots of interruptions, not all of them unwelcome.
