Nope, this definitely isn\u2019t the US anymore\u2026how often do <em>you<\/em> have to hunt for your shoes <em>after<\/em> you\u2019ve already started walking to your neighbors?<\/p>\n<p>This past week has been busy with unpacking, putting things away, shopping for essentials, visiting in the community, and my first language learning session! While I don&#8217;t understand most of what is being said, I have enjoyed sitting down with people, listening to them talk, and eating lots of sweet potatoes cooked lots of ways. For the next few months, I&#8217;ll be spending my days developing relationships with people in the community here and learning from them how to speak Melanesian Pidgin&#8211;the trade language of Papua New Guinea.
