Our House

December 29, 2009 by Rachel Chapman

Well, we don’t have a house yet.  We were hoping that our foundation and walls would be completed when we went out on our last visit to the village.  And, we were planning on getting the 2nd house started.  But, as we didn’t realize just how much cement we’d need for the foundation, the construction team ran out of materials half-way through the foundation.

Half of the foundation done - The site has a drop of about 2 feet, which made the foundation more work than we thought.

So, when we arrived, the foundation was half-way done.  We had brought more cement with us that was for the 2nd house and were able to order some more from some dump-truck drivers that were delivering supplies for a government clinic that is being built in our village.  So, the construction team got going with the extra cement and made good progress while we were there.

Dan worked with the tribal guys who were chosen to build our house.

We’re planning another building trip in January.  We hope to put a bond-beam on the top of our adobe walls to hold them together and to provide a place to attach the roof.
