After hundreds of hours of studying Nahuatl, listening to recordings, analyzing verbs, checking & double checking meanings & spelling, Katie Moore and I recently tested into Level 9 (of 12) in the method that our organization uses to test our fluency. We tested at Level 9 Low, so we’ll continue to study, and analyze, and listen, etc, but we’re also now embarking on a new phase of ministry.

Katie is working hard preparing a literacy course to teach the people here how to read and write in their language and also some Spanish. It’s a lot of work! She’s creating a set of primers with graded readers for each primer and working on reading material once the people are literate.

I am also working on reading materials. I am beginning to learn the process of Bible translation. My translation helper and I just finished studying and transferring Jonah chapter 1 into Nahuatl. I need to check it to make sure it’s accurate to the original, then send it to my consultant for checking. He’s giving me on-the-job training.

Once we finish Jonahs’ four chapters, we’ll dive into Genesis! I can’t wait to get going!
