{"id":1345,"date":"2012-10-04T19:03:09","date_gmt":"2012-10-05T00:03:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/rachel-chapman\/?p=1345"},"modified":"2012-10-04T19:06:46","modified_gmt":"2012-10-05T00:06:46","slug":"becoming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/rachel-chapman\/2012\/10\/04\/becoming\/","title":{"rendered":"Becoming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re on our way to becoming Nahuatl.\u00a0 In some ways, we&#8217;ll never become.\u00a0 Our skin is much lighter.\u00a0 We have more resources.\u00a0 We have a broader life perspective.<\/p>\n<p>However, as much as we can, we want to become like them.\u00a0 We want to be able to speak Nahuatl fluently.\u00a0 We want to be able to understand their culture so that we know what and how they think.\u00a0 That way, when we teach the Bible, we will know what they are thinking when we say, &#8220;God&#8221; or &#8220;spirit&#8221; or &#8220;rain.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In light of that, we are diligently studying the Nahuatl language.\u00a0 We are about one-third to half-way to fluency.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1350\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1350\" style=\"width: 512px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/rachel-chapman\/2012\/10\/04\/becoming\/img_3206-lo-res\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1350\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1350 \" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/rachel-chapman\/files\/2012\/10\/IMG_3206-lo-res.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"302\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/rachel-chapman\/files\/2012\/10\/IMG_3206-lo-res.jpg 640w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/rachel-chapman\/files\/2012\/10\/IMG_3206-lo-res-150x88.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/rachel-chapman\/files\/2012\/10\/IMG_3206-lo-res-300x177.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1350\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Our church-planting consultant visits every few months and tests us on our Nahuatl progress. We picked mushrooms and she taught me how to prepare them!
