{"id":1371,"date":"2013-02-03T16:03:41","date_gmt":"2013-02-03T21:03:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/rachel-chapman\/?p=1371"},"modified":"2013-02-03T16:03:41","modified_gmt":"2013-02-03T21:03:41","slug":"just-another-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/rachel-chapman\/2013\/02\/03\/just-another-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Just another day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>7:00 am \u2013 I woke up, got out of bed &amp; got myself ready for the day.\u00a0 I slept in this morning.\u00a0 It was so nice to have the extra hour of sleep.\u00a0 I feel refreshed and ready for the day.<\/p>\n<p>7:15 \u2013 As I was putting in my contacts at the bathroom sink, I remember a plumbing problem we\u2019ve been having with the bathroom drains.\u00a0 So, I grab some tools and fix it.<\/p>\n<p>7:40 \u2013 I had dishes from the night before.\u00a0 So, while I washed dishes, Katie made breakfast.\u00a0 We decide to head out the door to visit some Nahuatl friends about 9am.<\/p>\n<p>8:00 \u2013 We sit down for breakfast \u2013 an egg, toast with sugar-free guava jam that Katie made, and chai tea.\u00a0 Yum!<\/p>\n<p>8:15 \u2013 Jasmine arrives and asks for diapers for her neighbor\u2019s newborn.\u00a0 We are surprised at the birth of the new baby.\u00a0 We knew the mother was pregnant, but suspected her due date around April because of her size.\u00a0 We sell our visitor a few cloth diapers for her neighbor and offer her coffee because it\u2019s cold.<\/p>\n<p>9:15 \u2013 Francine arrives, a 13 year old who has a few days off school because the teacher is at a teachers\u2019 workshop.\u00a0 She\u2019s bored and wants me to make bread for her.\u00a0 I tell her I really don\u2019t have time to make bread.<\/p>\n<p>9:23 \u2013 Jasmine leaves.\u00a0 The solar panels have charged the batteries enough for us to turn on the inverter to use the internet.\u00a0 Katie checks her email.<\/p>\n<p>9:40 \u2013 Katie comes outside to visit with Francine so I can check email quick and get ready to go visiting. If you want tortilla flour, wheat flour, or beans, you might be out of luck.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>11:35 \u2013 The store is closed.\u00a0 Owners aren\u2019t home.\u00a0 They\u2019re probably working in their fields as it\u2019s nearing harvest time. The boys can be super goofy when they&#39;re all together!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>2:00 \u2013 Leyo leaves, so I finish making lunch which will be supper.\u00a0 I made extra so we can eat it several times this week, storing it in our solar powered refrigerator.\u00a0 I cleaned up the kitchen, washed dishes &amp; listened to some praise music instead of Nahuatl recordings because I was TIRED.<\/p>\n<p>3:30 \u2013 I\u2019m re-energized and ready to study.\u00a0 I sit at my desk and transcribe two texts that I recorded a little bit ago about what is a good person and what is a bad person in the Nahuatl\u2019s perspective.<\/p>\n<p>4:15 \u2013 I finished transcribing, so I check my time sheet that I fill out every day.\u00a0 What do I need to focus on with my time that\u2019s left for today?\u00a0 I have 6 hours on my time sheet already with 2 hours left to my goal.\u00a0 I need to work on analyzing grammar and writing up what we\u2019ve found in grammar.\u00a0 And, I need to process more recordings so that I can listen to the speech patterns &amp; write down the cultural information to pass to my teammates.\u00a0 I\u2019ll see what I can get done yet\u2026<\/p>\n<p>4:17 \u2013 I went to Katie\u2019s office to ask her a question and ended up listening to the Nahuatl story she\u2019s working on\u2026. A bear grabs a girl while she\u2019s out pasturing the cows and drags her to the edge of the cliff.\u00a0 But, then he grabs her little pocket mirror to admire himself.\u00a0 As he\u2019s looking at himself, she kicks him in the back and he rolls over the cliff.\u00a0 Nice story!\u00a0 We end up exchanging language info, talking about new words we\u2019re learning.<\/p>\n<p>4:40 \u2013 I grab a blanket to wrap up with on the couch as it\u2019s getting chilly now.\u00a0 I\u2019ll work on grammar for a little bit.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1391\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1391\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/rachel-chapman\/2013\/02\/03\/just-another-day\/img_3424-lo-res\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1391\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1391\" title=\"IMG_3424 lo res\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/rachel-chapman\/files\/2013\/02\/IMG_3424-lo-res.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"380\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/rachel-chapman\/files\/2013\/02\/IMG_3424-lo-res.jpg 640w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/rachel-chapman\/files\/2013\/02\/IMG_3424-lo-res-150x89.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/rachel-chapman\/files\/2013\/02\/IMG_3424-lo-res-300x178.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/rachel-chapman\/files\/2013\/02\/IMG_3424-lo-res-500x296.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1391\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Trying to figure out the complexities of the Nahuatl grammar<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>5:00 \u2013 Katie\u00b4s laundry lady returns from washing her clothes.\u00a0 Katie invites her in to warm up with a coffee.\u00a0 I greet her and add to the conversation here and there in Nahuatl as I type out Nahuatl grammar rules in English on my computer.<\/p>\n<p>5:15 \u2013 Other visitors arrive; I quickly save my work and put away my computer so I can help Katie host people in our house.\u00a0 Since it is chilly, I offer the new arrivals coffee.\u00a0 I heat water for them, make coffee, and visit with them until the coffee is drunk.<\/p>\n<p>5:50 \u2013 All the visitors leave.\u00a0 I sit down again to get a little more grammar work done.<\/p>\n<p>6:30 \u2013 Our co-workers, Pete &amp; Liesl, arrive for some prayer time together.\u00a0 I heat up supper for Katie and I and we eat while we catch up.\u00a0 <em>How is <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/rachel-chapman\/2012\/05\/06\/milo\/\" target=\"_blank\">Milo<\/a> understanding the Bible teaching?\u00a0 \u00a0Have you heard anything new about when the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/rachel-chapman\/2013\/02\/01\/two-steps-forward-one-step-back\/\" target=\"_blank\">well drillers<\/a> are coming?\u00a0 Did you know there\u2019s a new baby in town?<\/em>\u00a0 Then, we pray.<\/p>\n<p>8:00 \u2013 Prayer time over; Pete &amp; Liesl head back to their house.<\/p>\n<p>8:15 \u2013 Katie and I watch a show on our little 9in portable DVD player.<\/p>\n<p>9:00 \u2013 I\u2019m reading through the Bible, and right now I\u2019m in Jeremiah, reading his prophecies to Judah after the first Babylonian invasion.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Blessed are those who trust in the Lord, and have made the their hope and confidence.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.
