We were planning to spend the night with the headhunters of the Da’an river to ask if we could live among them. We carried the message of eternal life through faith in Christ which they had not heard.

On the River

Now it was black with darkness on the river. We were only fifteen minutes away. We had failed to reach our destination.

We were filled with questions. Do crocodiles live this far up the river? Do pythons swim in the river at night? Would orangutans come to the river in the dark? Were we safe from the wild pigs and their dangerous tusks? What would happen if rain had fallen further upriver? Would the headhunters come to find us in the night?”

Diana and I are privileged to share our experiences from years of missionary work to declare God’s glory and to increase awareness of the people who are the least reached with the Gospel. We like to inform churches and challenge people to be busy about God’s business of reaching every tribe with the Gospel.

This year we have represented New Tribes Mission at two of the largest air shows in the USA, Sun N Fun (March) and Oshkosh (August), Word of Life Bible Institute (January), a home school convention (April), several missions conferences and many churches. We continue to meet with pastors, small groups, Christian schools and people who are interested in reaching the unreached with the Gospel.

We need people to help us carry God’s word in remote places of the world.

In November we had the privilege of bringing fifteen people to attend a Wayumi Weekend Retreat. We highly recommend that you attend a Wayumi event! One student described the Weekend Retreat as, “Life-changing!”

When I (Randy) was eight years old a missionary named Ken Johnston came to his Seattle home and told my family about tribal people who had never heard of Jesus. Ken’s words prompted a whole family to act, beginning with the parents. Since then God has used the family to impact people in many countries around the world for Christ.

Through your generosity we now have the same privilege of encouraging people to act for the benefit of those Least Reached People Groups who have no voice and no knowledge of God.

We never know how God will use the seed of His word communicated other people. It is our hope that some of the seeds we plant will also bear much fruit. We must continue to plant that the harvest may be great. Already there are more people literally begging to be told the story about God than there are people to tell them. Pray that the Lord of the harvest will send laborers.

Thank you for supporting God’s work through us and helping us to help other people!

Please contact us if you would like us to speak to your group. mailto:randy_smyth@ntm.org

“It was pitch black in the center of Borneo.
