In a particular African people group, your host will likely ask you, \u201cHave you taken a shower yet?\u201d If you respond with, \u201cI am not taking a shower now,\u201d they will leave you be. But if you respond with \u201cI haven\u2019t taken a shower yet,\u201d they will heat up a bucket of water and bring it to you so you can take a shower. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The difficulty is that those two responses sound almost the same in the language – with different tones. If you say the wrong one, it affects what you\u2019ll be doing next! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Learning these nuances and building relationships takes time.\u00a0 Your partnership helps missionaries step out of our normal world to learn a language and culture which becomes their \u201cnew normal\u201d. \u00a0 Your partnership keeps the computer technology going in the background to process financial gifts, receive email direction from leaders, and manage medical insurance – so that missionaries can focus on church planting.\u00a0 God enables them to learn not only the proper greetings but also apply that knowledge to communicate the message of the Bible clearly.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We are thankful for God\u2019s provision of a new home, with enough space to host Scott\u2019s parents when they pass through town, and a close distance to Regina\u2019s parents.\u00a0 We appreciate the time with family.\u00a0 We are thankful also for the encouraging\u00a0time this year spent with partners in Michigan and Indiana.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
