So it is official: Wisconsin, here we stay! The first few days of the new semester were a bit difficult, thinking about our friends back in Missouri continuing on without us- there were definitely a few tears (from the pregnancy hormones, of course!). There was also the confusion of not knowing why God would choose to keep us here when there is so much urgency to get the Gospel to people who have never heard. To be completely honest, the peace I thought I had when considering the option of staying in WI was almost forgotten for a few days as my mind began to focus on everything that wasn’t what I wanted it to be. Praise the Lord that we have a patient and forgiving God, who gave me a few days of wallowing in self-pity before He gently began to remind me of His love and His sovereignty.
Right around that time I began a new devotional, “Jesus Calling” by Sarah Young, and one of the days seemed written exactly for the situation we were in. The devotional had these very applicable lines in it: “Much, much stress results from your wanting to make things happen before their times have come… Instead of dashing headlong toward your goal, let (God) set the pace.” It was amazing how God used those words to honestly make me think about our circumstances from a different perspective. We still miss our friends, but I’m so thankful that God has shown us so clearly that this is His will for us right now, and that is such a good feeling!
