A Helicopter Sighting

October 27, 2011 by Robyn Green

Yesterday a helicopter flew over the center at dinnertime. I have a feeling that you are wondering if this is worthy of a blog post and debating if you should read on. I can’t determine those things for you, but I can tell you that a helicopter sighting is rare here. As I looked out the back window, I saw entire families run into the field to try and catch a glimpse of it. At a gathering of friends later, the helicopter’s presence in the sky was discussed. It’s something that might be ordinary in some places, but here it is noteworthy. It made me think about things that I all too often think are ordinary but are indeed a big deal…things like the provision of a food for every meal, such as the crocodile stir-fry last night or the chicken biscuits that are a delicious snack; emails from friends or family about everything and nothing in particular; students who ask questions about glowing guinea pigs during the genetics unit; prayer for staff and students during meetings; sunny days that mean plenty of hot water. PNG has a knack for reminding of life lessons, and the helicopter overhead made me especially grateful for these ordinary things, and leaves me hoping that such thankfulness won’t be a rarity in my life.

Robyn, that is an amazing insight … The other way we realize blessings is when they’re gone. We miss you around here and fully realize what a blessing you are. I’m thankful that you are still an amazing blessing, just with a big change of venue! You’re in our thoughts and prayers!
