I had to clean up the innards of a dismantled rat. But the innards and
back half of the rat were on my porch. I don’t know where the front half was,
but I was thankful that none of it was in my house.

Because the week before, I had quite the cat-killed-rat
ordeal.

As I loaded clothes into the washing machine before the
crack of dawn, I saw something out of the corner of my eye. No biggie, I
thought, I just turned on the light, I’m out on the porch, I have sleep in my
eyes, nothing is really there. Well, within ten seconds I knew that wasn’t the
case. Cali, the cat I am watching for the year, had followed me out and had a
good-sized rat captured. Yay!

BUT, the screen door still hadn’t closed. Cali rushed in the
house with said rat. I finished loading the clothes and then very hesitantly
went to find her. That wasn’t so hard because I just had to follow the blood
drops. She’d taken into the bathroom and was protecting it. So, I stepped in
with a plastic bag and shut the door. I wanted to get the rat, and I didn’t
want her to leave with it before that. (I was so, so, so afraid at this point
that she was going to take it under my bed.) But there was no getting that rat
from her. She just wanted to play with it. She flung it around…it’s body and
tail just limply flying through the air. I chose to leave and let her get her
fill of play because the tail got way too close to me. I tried to do normal
morning stuff, but really I was just thinking about that rat and cat in my
bathroom.

When I had done all I could and really just need to take a
shower, I let Cali out and made sure she promptly left the house completely. If
she had eaten it, I didn’t want any of it coming back up in my house. I walked
in the bathroom, which had bits of fur and blood all about. I couldn’t find the
rat and decided maybe she had eaten it. Well, I thought that until I saw cat
footprints all the toilet seat. Yep, the rat was in the toilet. And thus, the
whole story ended with me fishing a urine-soaked rat out of a toilet and
bleaching just about everything in the house.

I don’t have a cat-killed-rat story for this week, and I am thankful for that.
