The party of seven was just finishing their coffee and dessert when 2 additional families came strolling to the door for their evening meal. Not including the many friends who have dropped by for a cup of coffee, people who have stopped in for a chat, refreshments served during discussion groups in our home or pot luck dinners, I just counted the number of plates I had set for our guests in our home at meal time since moving out in the country 3 weeks ago – I stopped at 95. In some ways our daily lives are still the same as when we lived in the city, but in most ways things are very different.
Yes, we have made a big move. We are now living out in the country on our flight center. Some of our friends were worried that we might be ‘bored’ after such an active city life for the past 11 years. Our first month has proven them wrong. We love it here!!
Rocky continues corresponding with the new missionaries on their way to the Philippines. We enjoy this communication with them and always look forward to welcoming them to this field. Liz is also able to do a lot of the office work here that she did in Manila. One task that takes most of her time is writing and editing booklets that are used either to help the new folks on their way to the field or new missionaries to get acquainted with the Philippines. Gathering and sending out monthly prayer requests for our folks here and working on a magazine that will show folks on the home end what God is doing in the tribal works also help keep her busy.
Since we are living on the flight center people are often either coming out of their tribes, or on their way in. Us families on the center take turns having them in our homes and sharing our meals with them. We enjoy this time of fellowship with each family and find it a great way of finding out directly what God is doing in each station, giving us ample matters to pray for.
Our location has changed, and parts of our job descriptions, but not our goal. We are still excited to be part of the team that is taking the gospel to tribal folks. In Manila we were working with government offices, making sure the legal aspects of our mission were taken care of. Now we are working closer with the tribal missionaries and the tribal works they are involved in.
