As we stood near the ocean, watching the waves breaking on the shore, we were trying to decide if we had imagined what had just happened or if it had been real. God had given us the incredible opportunity to visit two of the most recently opened tribal groups on the island of Palawan.
THE AGUTAYNEN – our first visit was to the Agutaynen, which is accessible by land. The missionary team is made up of 3 couples – one family has been living there for a couple of years, so are well into language study; the second family was working on their house while we were there, and the third was still searching for a house so they could join the team in the village.
So much of the process reminded us of when we first moved in with the Kankanaey in 1981. We know how to pray for them as they get their homes ready to live in, build relationships with those around them, and learn the local language.
THE TAGBANWA – the following day took us on a journey to Tagbanwa land. We traveled to this gorgeous area by boat. Walking thru the village with the missionaries and seeing the tribal life style continued to bring back notable memories. We are excited to know that someday soon these dear folks will have the opportunity to be filled with wonder at the truth that God’s Son chose to leave heaven and come to earth to provide salvation for them.
