My Kindergarten teacher was a missionary home on furlough from the Philippines. She lived with our family as well as taught me school, so I heard many stories about life in the Palawano tribe. Just this past week we had the privilege of visiting this area. We were able to go to two different missionary stations in this very poor, but friendly tribal group.
Now In one of the stations, one of the missionaries is from our home church in the Faroes! There are several believers in that village so it was encouraging to visit with them in their homes, hearing how they came to know Christ. In the other station, the missionaries are still in language study, but they have built a very good relationship with the people in their village and it will be exciting when they are fluent enough to begin teaching the Word. Visiting this area and spending time with the missionaries there was truly a meaningful time for us – something that was just a dream for me when I was in Kindergarten!
While we were in Palawan I also had the privilege of going with one of my friends to her ministry with a large group of High School students. She goes there twice a week and has been teaching chronologically thru the Bible. The week I was with her she was showing the Jesus film as a review. After the film was over and most of the students had left we saw one teen age boy sitting by himself at the back of the room, crying. We went to talk to him and he shared with us that he now understood that he was a sinner and He was lost until he accepted God’s gift. Several students have gotten saved this year. How encouraging!! What an opportunity this is to be able to teach in the public schools!
