Being exposed to missionary life was the main theme of the team from Germany who recently visited us here in the Philippines.  We had been communicating with the leaders of the team for the last 18 months and were even able to spend a day with them in Germany planning this trip.  Recently we made arrangements with 3 tribal groups to host this team, made flight arrangements, bought bus tickets, made reservations in guest homes, bought 3 weeks supply of food for the 11 team members – basically everything was ready for the team to come.  <\/p>\n

How many times did we use the word "exposure" during those 3 weeks?  We weren’t always so sure though that we were using the correct word – maybe it should have been flexibility.  <\/p>\n

They were exposed to how much we depend on airplanes and the weather to get to our locations.  They divided into 3 groups to be flown into the Agta tribe.  The first group was on their way at 4:00 in the morning and made it in with no problem, but ended up having to wait for over 24 hours until the next 2 groups got in – one flight was aborted, and an emergency flight needed to be fit into the schedule.  <\/p>\n

They were exposed to constant change of plans – when they were trying to fly into the Isnag tribe, bad weather prevented them from landing on that airstrip, so they ended up flying to a different town, hiring a vehicle to bring them the 5 hr. trip to the center here and were not able to visit the Isnag.<\/p>\n

They were exposed to missionary life in the beginning stages and in the ending stage.  In the Agta the missionary is still in language study.  In the Kalanguya the missionaries work has been completed.  To visit the Agta, they experienced an hour’s airplane ride and 5 hr. in a small boat on the ocean.  In the Kalanguya after spending several hours on rough roads in a jeepney, they were greeted by a group of believers who shared their testimonies with them.  There were over 200 believers at the meeting there on Sunday.  <\/p>\n

They were exposed to many different life styles – means of transportation – rearranged schedules – several different languages – lots of new foods – unusual sleeping places – humid weather and much, much more.  However as they were exposed to so many new and strange things, it was exciting for us to see their excitement as to what God id doing here among the tribal people – the real reason we are here, and why they came for this time of exposure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
