What no power?!

11 November 12 by Roland and Jinni Shafer Jr.

Just a few weekends ago our little township was informed that the power would be out for almost 8 hours. The power was going to be out from 7AM until 3PM. I can’t remember ever being in a scheduled, city-wide power outage. But it was coming and all had to make preparations. There would be  no lights in the now later morning sunrise, no electric coffee makers going and no microwaves warming up the after-church leftovers. Can you imagine?

In the wake of the latest hurricane damage on the eastern US, many people are still without power. It is being restored as quickly as crews of workers can accomplish all the reconnecting necessary. Without their efforts there will not be any power. I just have no idea how difficult that must continue to be. We are praying their difficulties will be over as soon as possible.

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come into you, and you shall be My witnesses…” Jesus after His resurrection made this incredible and blessed statement to His disciples. He knew they would face many situations in the journey ahead where they needed a reminder of the Authority and power they were commissioned to share His gospel in. They would need it AND HAVE IT – the Holy Spirit would not just be with them but IN them – they would have His POWER.

As our missionary teams serve to spread the light of the Good News of Jesus, they too need reminders of Whose Authority and Power they are carrying this precious message in. They often need others, away from the pressures of their indigenous or governmental ministries to carry the reminders in to them. Sometimes it is with physical supplies or with a radio check. It could be even be from a partner half way around the world who sends an email or connects with them over the internet.

We are so thankful to have friends and family who are part of our team. We know God has encouraged us through each one of you. We trust you are experiencing the same as you’re reminded Whose Power you serve through, too. Thank you, each one, for your encouraging words, for your prayers and for your financial blessings that keep us involved the Christ’s “Power Team”!

Keep pressing on…in His POWER

our Source of confidence – 2 Corinthians 3;4-6

(4)  We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ.

(5)  It is not that we think we can do anything of lasting value by ourselves. Our only power and success come from God.

(6)  He is the one who has enabled us to represent His new covenant. This is a covenant, not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old way ends in death; in the new way, the Holy Spirit gives life.

2 Corinthians 3:4-6
