That’s what it feels like. After a whirlwind of events, I’m finally coming up for air.
I’m not sure I could have squeezed anything else into the past four weeks.
Keys in Hand!
May 14th marked the day I became a somewhat surprised owner of my new home. I still marvel at how God put that all together in just over three weeks from when I first saw the place. Then the “fun” began as the “as is” foreclosed house needed to be made rental-ready by the end of May, which involved:
- servicing, though thankfully not replacing, the air-conditioning unit;
- installing a bathroom vanity/sink and fixing plumbing issues;
- filling holes in the wall and then painting the bathroom;
- replacing the kitchen faucet;
- putting up ceiling fans and light fixtures in the majority of rooms;
- replacing the back door and the locks on the house;
- and cleaning it!
My abilities only reached to filling the holes in the wall, painting the bathroom and cleaning the house. Thankfully, God handpicked all the right people to come along and be such a blessing.
My co-worker Chris made multiple trips to Home Depot seem like exciting outings — even when I got sidetracked and forgot to feed her! (Thankfully, she was very forgiving.)
My son Joe came for a surprise visit and ended up helping me paint the bathroom. And it just wouldn’t have come together without the easy-going handyman who worked miracles to get everything done in his spare time.
Of course, I had houseguests for two and a half weeks during this time. My son’s surprise visit was fabulous, and then I had convinced my parents to come down for my dad’s 80th birthday. I’m sure they think I had ulterior motives! Yes, my dad went to work replacing the wooden back door (that had some wood rot) with a nice steel door — and then changed the locks on the front and back doors for me. And my mom? We were a joint cleaning crew.
After much sweat and effort, the house was ready on time, the tenants were handed the keys and moved in (for roughly six months), and the house looks even nicer with furniture in it.
It’s quite relaxing to not be juggling my ministry responsibilities with all the extra-curricular activities. It’s time to come up for air. It’s time to relax and take time to enjoy the sunrises and sunsets over the lake from my living room window. Thanks for your prayers during this crazy month!
On Another Note: New Tribes Mission came up from fourteenth to fourth place in the 2014 Lightspeed Pilot’s Choice Awards. If you haven’t already voted, could you help vote us to first place? Thank you so much for voting for New Tribes Mission. Please continue to share this link: http://go.ntm.org/win-grant-2014
